Hi! I took the GRE yesterday and got an unofficial score of 167V and 165Q. Both of these scores seem to be within the range of scores published by some of the top universities (e.g., UC Berkeley publishes an average quant score of 159). However, as I am interested in doing quantitative research, I wonder if top programs will expect by GRE quant score to be better. For some more context, I majored in Computed Science and minored in Data Science and had a 4.0 GPA (my hope is this could offset any red flags from the GRE score).

Should I retake the test? I would love to save the money and use that time for things that seem more productive, like working on my research, but do not want GRE to affect my chances of admission. Thank you!

I think these scores are plenty great! But if you're worried about it, maybe go through the recent admits at universities you're interested in on whatever tab that is here on grad cafe and see how you compare. A 4.0 with a background in data science and CS is going to give you a major leg up, and I don't hear any red flags at all.

Those scores are very competitive. I wouldn't advise re-taking the GRE but your purpose statement should emphasize what touch points you've had with sociology as an undergrad (classes, seminars, etc).
