I thought it might be helpful to see where people were declining offers, especially for those on waitlists.

I'll likely be declining admission at Teachers College, in the Cognitive Studies in Education Ph.D. program.

Not that it really matters as we're in different disciplines (I'm Women's Studies) but I'll be turning down offers at:

St. John's University

Roosevelt University

and

Loyola University Chicago

I'm still waiting to hear back from American, WashU (yea, right haha) & Sarah Lawrence

ok....i could be if they would tell me about funding! hahah

good luck :)

I will probably be declining offers from Case Western and UNC (Chapel Hill) and (assuming I get in - haven't heard from them yet) CUNY and University of Iowa. I got into my top two choices, so it's between NYU and Northwestern now and I will be visiting both programs at the end of the month.

My question is -- although I haven't made a final decision yet, should I decline offers for the schools I'm less interested in now? I know we have until April 15th but I hate to keep people on the waitlist hanging (I can definitely sympathize). I'm afraid it will seem strange if the declined programs ask me where I decided to go and I tell them I don't know yet. Thoughts?

Stylefaxee, if you are totally sure, then I think you should go ahead and tell them you're not going. If they do ask where you are going, tell them "A or B" like you told us. I don't think that's a big deal to worry about. They will appreciate you being considerate. With undergrad, the surveys asking what you picked instead didn't come for a while after everyone had made their choices.

I'm PhD marketing, and I've declined offers from UIUC and Indiana.

I agree. If your choice is down to two schools, let the other ones know you're not interested. Some poor slob on the waitlist will love ya' for it.

I declined offers from Albert Einstein (Graduate Program) and University of Florida (IDP). I haven't made my final decision yet, but they didn't make it to my 'short list'. When they asked me where I had decided to go instead, I just didn't reply -- I'll let them know after I make the final decision.

I've also now declined the University of Alberta, PhD marketing. (From before, declines: UIUC, Indiana, Minnesota, all PhD marketing.)
