  1. A HA! They have denied me. It's cool, I'm happy to be moving on with making my decision. Must have been a tough year, I thought I was pretty well qualified, at least to get an interview! But you never know. Accepted to Fordham and Teachers College Rejected from NYU and Columbia Interviewed and waiting at CUNY Brooklyn College. Hope everyone had a successful application process!
  2. Hi! I know this is an exhausted point already, but has anyone heard from Columbia yet? I have heard from all of my other schools, and am ready to make my decision. Columbia was the first application due, and by far the last to respond.
  3. Hi! I received my MA in general psych from Hunter. When I got out of my undergraduate program, I did not at all feel prepared to apply for my Ph.D., and didn't have any research experience yet. So I enrolled in the MA program at Hunter, and completed that while working full-time in research. I enjoyed the program, it definitely helped me to feel prepared to apply to Ph.D. programs, which I've now done (rather successfully- 3 acceptances/ interviews out of 4 applications so far, and one program I haven't heard back from yet). I was matriculated, but there were several people in my program who either started as non-matriculating and later matriculated, and some who just took some classes. It's tricky deciding whether to jump right into a Ph.D. or to do your Master's first- the MA was the right decision for me. I am better prepared to enter a Ph.D. program, and CUNY is very inexpensive, so it will not cost me too much more in the end (perhaps it will even end up saving me money, if I end up with good financial aid from my Ph.D. program, and will likely be able to transfer some of my credits). If you plan to take some time off anyway before you apply for your Ph.D., I definitely think it might be a good idea to take some graduate level classes. My work actually paid some of my tuition, since my classes were related to my job. So in the end, I spent a little money and time, in exchange for strengthening my application for my Ph.D. Weigh your options, for me this was the right course, but everyone's situation is different. Keep in mind that New School is rather costly! But I have no experience with that program, only Hunter. Let me know if you have any questions about Hunter, I'd be happy to help
  4. From the looks of the results post, they're doing this to a lot of programs. I've heard nothing from them about the Psych Ph.D. program, and the deadline was Dec 1st!
  5. Hi everyone I have an interview tomorrow, a group one where we will tour the campus and meet with several faculty members. There are several faculty members that I would be very happy to work with- some who work on topics that I have much experience with, and others that are just very interesting to me but I don't have much experience with. My question - what should I say when they ask me who I want to work with? Does it look bad to say that I am interested in quite a few of the labs? Thanks!!
  6. I had been hoping to work with Dr. Krauss or Dr. Metcalfe at Columbia, though there are quite a few that I'd be happy to work with. I believe they are on spring break this week, so hopefully I'll hear by next week. Do you know if they plan to have another interview day for wait-listers? I won't keep my hopes up Fastforward- I didn't realize you are international, then I guess you should be hearing from NYU any day now. I'm in New York, so of course it didn't take long to find me. I think it was last Monday, so hopefully you'll hear soon. Anyone planning to attend the open house at CUNY Brooklyn College for the Cognition, Brain, & Behavior program next Friday?
  7. No reply from NYU yet, FastForward? I got my rejection last week. The envelope wasn't even sealed (maybe so snooping neighbors could experience my rejection with me?). Still no word from Columbia though. Sigh, those were my top two choices. Good luck next year!
  8. Ha indeed. Looks like Fordham (Educational Psychology) or CUNY (Cognition, Brain, & Behavior- interview next week) for me! Where is everyone else going?
  9. Yeah, I figure it's a rejection, I just wish they'd go ahead and tell me! I'm fairly sure they had interviews, and can't imagine that I've been accepted without an interview. It's ok, I have some good options, but would really like to know for sure what they all are before I go ahead and accept somewhere. Why do schools wait to reject? It seems silly that they hold on to rejection letters so long
  10. Columbia? Hello, Columbia? Anyone heard from them? Good grief, if they've rejected me, I just want to know so that I can get on with figuring out what school to go to! Thanks all!
  11. I just heard from CUNY's Cognition, Brain, & Behavior program, they are having an open house on March 28th. Anyone else here going?
  12. I thought it might be helpful to see where people were declining offers, especially for those on waitlists. I'll likely be declining admission at Teachers College, in the Cognitive Studies in Education Ph.D. program.
  13. Ouch, rejected by my first choice yesterday, and expecting a rejection from my second choice soon. Not even given an interview! I'd thought that between my top two choices, I'd at least get an interview from one. Good GREs/GPA, 5+ years research experience, and a master's degree, plus one of my letters of recommendation from a graduate of the school. Luckily I have been accepted to 2 others, though neither has decent financial aid. Thanks for hearing my rant, all you wonderful and frustrated fellow applicants
  14. WUSTL has finally sent me their rejection. Boo. This was my top choice! FastForward- sorry to hear you're in the same boat. I have more that 5 years of research experience and a masters in psychology, and thought my GRE/GPA scores were certainly up to par for NYU, but still not even an interview. I'm sure research experience will help your applications if you reapply, but like everyone on this site says, you can never really be sure . Good luck! This sucks.
  15. Let us know how it works out, FastForward. Good luck! I agree, I'm just ready to know now, so I can get on with my life, and start figuring out what I need to do!
