Hello,

So I've started my application for Immunology at Rockefeller and the website says official transcripts are needed from the undergrad uni before the deadline. My problem is that I graduate with my BSc (Hons) in July 2011 and I'm applying for Fall 2011. My transcripts will only be available after July 2011 and the deadline for the application is December 2010. I've emailed Rockefeller but haven't had a reply (maybe coz it's too early in the application process). Any ideas/advice?

You can send transcripts before your finished. That's what they essentially are asking you to do

Thanks from trying to help but I think I understand what they're asking me to do. Sorry if you misunderstood my question-I'll try again:

Before I finish with my degree (July 2011) my undergrad uni and/or I can only send out unofficial interim transcripts. However, Rockefeller is asking for an official transcript before their application deadline for Fall 2011 (December 2010). I'm unsure about whether to get my undergrad uni to send the interim unofficial transcript or to send it myself. I'm confused because Yale, amongst other grad schools I'm applying to, says very clearly that I should send them the unofficial transcript and get my unedrgrad uni to send them the official one, after I finish my degree, only if Yale offers me a place.

I don't understand why any interim transcript you would send would be unofficial. Get an official transcript sent from your uni to Rockefeller this semester. It should list your past grades and the courses you are currently enrolled in. You can optionally choose to send them another transcript after the term ends that lists your grades from the current term but this isn't necessary.

Thanks I think I now understand what I need to do.

It's just a difference in terminology between unis in the US and unis here in the UK. Our transcripts are available and constantly updated online so we can print them off and send them as application materials whenever but that doesn't necessarily mean that they have been signed off by the extra regulatory body that UK unis have called the Board of Studies (dunno if schools in the States have this). The Board meets and signs off on transcripts once a year (July in time for the graduating class to graduate), so any changes made after sign off automatically converts the transcript status to unofficial-see what I mean? So whether I print it off my records or I get the uni to print it off my records it will bear the status of unofficial even if it's in a sealed envelope bearing the uni registrar's signature/seal whatever. Hence my confusion about what exactly Rockefeller wanted or if it even applied to me as opposed to people who have undergrad/grad degrees other than the one they are currently studying for.

Thanks for your help tho!
