Should I update PhD applications with a preprint?

A paper that I mentioned in my CV as in-progress/pending submission has now been put on arXiv, and has been submitted to a journal. Is it worth sending an update to the schools I've applied to so far regarding that? 

For context, I'm applying to Biostats PhD programs.

I wouldn't bother. Admissions committee members aren't going to read your paper, so the difference between something that's in-progress and something that's submitted/on arXiv is pretty minimal.

I think it's better to update. It can show your work and interest.
