tdd9 Posted February 19, 2023 Posted February 19, 2023 Hi all, after interviewing in January, I received notice from UChicago (about two weeks ago) that I am on the waitlist for their Linguistics PhD. It was a very nice and pretty personal email from their grad chair, as well as emails from the three professors I interviewed with (one of whom is my POI) explaining their admissions constraints and expressing their hope that I get admitted. They left off on a very positive note inviting me to reach out if I have any questions or want to talk about my application. I am wondering whether to simply continue waiting or if reaching back out would be impactful. I have no real updates to share with them as I have not received any offers at this point, and I already let them know that they are my top choice during our interview, so I'm not sure what exactly to say if I do reach out. Should I reaffirm my interest and let them know I've received no other offers yet or would that reflect poorly? I know that would have no bearing on getting me off the waitlist, but perhaps it could affect my position on the waitlist, who knows. I would definitely appreciate their advice for applying to programs next time around if it comes to that, but it may be too soon to broach that topic with them. Appreciate any thoughts folks have on this, thank you!
