abaabeel Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Dear All Can somebody please tell me universities which offer MPA/MPP with concentration in energy economics and environment (not just environment)? I just came up with University of Texas-Austin, Colorado school of mines and SIPA Columbia. Any more universities please?
mppgal55 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 You will have trouble finding programs that focus specifically in Energy. I know that BU has a program, but it is a lesser-known one. Delaware has a relatively strong energy MA program (http://ceep.udel.edu/academics/masters/ma-req.htm) that is very selective and well known, especially regionally. You may be better off trying find a program that has strong econ and energy/environmental programs separately, and work to combine the two. At Michigan, for example, they have good econ/environmental programs and you could likely create your own program. At Wisconsin (Madison), they have an energy certification you can get. Many faculty members at Maryland have strong environmental/energy research backgrounds, you may be able to find some kinship there. At Heinz, I work a lot with their engineering Masters programs to add in the energy, and the program is naturally quantitative. I don't know if you're interested in an IR/International Affairs-type degree, but the Energy, Resources and Environment concentration at SAIS is good, and they have a rigorous economics component to the degree with optional economics specializations. http://www.sais-jhu.edu/academics/functional-studies/ere/index.htm
policy_wonk_18 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Berkeley GSPP is closely tied to the Energy Institute at Haas, which is an interdisciplinary institute that cuts across policy, law, business, and engineering. Students from all of these schools take numerous energy economics and environmental courses to fulfill their respective program curricula. There is also a great academic association connected to the Institute called the Berkeley Energy & Resources Collaborative (BERC). Berkeley is really on the cutting edge of the energy industry, and in particular, the Silicon Valley cleantech movement. You should look into this program.
