another_application Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 gulp. help. please. how is an M Ed. degree in developmental psychology from a school of education compared with one from a psychology department viewed when applying to phD programs in a psychology department? is a lesser prestige associated with schools of ed?
StarvingStudentYeah Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I'd say it depends on the program at both ends. If the M.Ed affords ample research opportunity and you take advantage of that (thesis at minimum) you should be fine. I know several people who have went on from M.Ed to PhD in both Clinical, Cognitive, and Quantitative Psych. If you get research experience, maintain an good GPA, and can explain why you went into the M.Ed that you did and why it's beneficial to you as a PhD candidate you will find you way into a PhD program that will make you happy.
