  1. gulp. help. please. how is an M Ed. degree in developmental psychology from a school of education compared with one from a psychology department viewed when applying to phD programs in a psychology department? is a lesser prestige associated with schools of ed?
  2. i don't know if it helps, but i received an offer from HGSE's MA in human development last friday.
  3. it's looks like we're the only two psyched on this taubman center thing. i couldn't go to admissions day either (due to living overseas) but i too would like to have gone. have you heard anything about the program other than what's on the website? (admissions statistics...career prospects for the mpp...etc...) i know that they just started offering the mpp in 2005 or so, but still, there's got to be information on the '05/'06/'07 entrance classes.
  4. since i applied a few days after the financial aid deadline, i wasn't expecting any scholarships from wagner, and i received my email acceptance (suhweet =] ) last friday. so, in light of this, i think that perhaps it's just a crapshoot as to when you'll get your decision and financial aid information.
  5. congrats on your acceptances to all of those places...from what i know they're all good schools. a lot of where you end up going should depend on where you plan to work. i've spoken with some people at usc, and it seems for the mpa program, many students end up working the los angeles area. (this isn't to say that others don't find work elsewhere.) but also, usc has the "international labs" that might provide a nice opportunity to get non US consulting (?) experience. usc's sppd website is really helpful with these sorts of things. i think they also have an ambassador's program of the sort where you could talk with a student representative. as for gtown and cmu, i'm not sure about those programs (sorry...). i know it's not a ton of information, but i hope it helps?
  6. does anybody even know brown's mpp acceptance rate?
  7. first, it's amazing that you were accepted into so many top programs. while i don't have any advice (although i've heard syracuse has a top program) i do have a question regarding the Columbia program: i'm worried about my age too (turned 20 in november)...did you call and ask columbia? or how did you get feedback on your application?
  8. I know that the MPA is generally a professional degree and the MPP is more of an academic dgree. Some school differentiate between the degrees and others don't. So is there really a huge difference in the attractiveness between the two regardless of whether one decides to work professionally or continue in academcis after obtaining the MPP or MPA?
  9. i'm curious...how is the USC SPPD MPA degree viewed? is it more of a regional school? or does an MPA from usc have a national appeal?
  10. i really don't think it's going to be a deal breaker either way. i called a university regarding this because i wanted to apply to several different schools within the university. basically the answer i got was that those data are used for purposes of dual admittances...to see how the school itself stands among its peer universities. (ie. we lost x% of admitted students to this other university)
  11. i too have nothing useful or constructive to say... but, why, oh, why must the suspense continue?
  12. i'm kind of curious as well. i know that the Taubman Center itself is really involved with research, and from what i can tell, it's pretty renowned too. butthe program itself isn't accredited by NASPAA...whatever that means, considering Public Policy accreditation isn't mandatory unlike med-school accreditation. it's a voluntary peer review process...
