I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on this. For departments that don't indicate an average GRE score for admitted students, is it appropriate to email the department to ask for such information? Could it be frowned upon?

Along the same line of questioning, does anyone know if UC Berkeley produces summaries similar to the University of Washington's Department Summaries?

All I have been able to find is the NRC data through http://graduate-school.phds.org/, but that is slightly dated and not necessarily accurate anymore based on the more thorough Washington summaries I linked to.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it would be frowned upon to ask. Just make sure that it's not available on their website first though.

Yes, I don't think it would be frowned upon at all. I've done it to a few schools and they all seemed pretty receptive.

Although one school pretty much told me to not apply because my scores did not equal a high enough number in the formula they use so it can be valuable/disheartening.

True, the results might not be what I want to her. I admit that I made a few blunders on my test, so my GRE scores are suboptimal. A topic for another thread.

I thought this might be taboo if the website had the "holistic consideration" clause. I guess I should have done this! At this point recommenders have already started writing and sending letters so I guess I have to roll with it!
