Ludwig von Dracula Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I'm applying for PhD's in CS and writing my SOP. I secured a pretty generous 4 year scholarship. Should I mention this in the SOP? I would say yes. It gives you a leg up on competitors because you will require less funding from the school. I can't see how this could hurt your chances, but others may have a different opinion.

adaptations Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I suspect that you can tie the purpose or focus of the scholarship into your SOP with ease. For example, if the scholarship had a research proposal that you are now committed to pursuing, you should probably mention that. If the scholarship is for existing achievements, you could explain how those achievements prepared you to earn your doctorate, and earned you X scholarship. If it is a minority scholarship, or something of that nature, you could have a very brief discussion on how your minority status influenced your course of study... Good luck.

It's a merit based scholarship, so I'll mention that. Thanks for the ideas!
