For the sake of future applicants who are wondering about notification dates...

Just received a rejection by email (3/27):

We regret that we cannot offer you a Mellon Fellowship for Dissertation Research in the Humanities in Original Sources this year. Your application was one of 497 from which we could select only 17 for awards. Due to the volume of applications reviewed we are unable to provide feedback regarding individual applications, but it was a very competitive pool and our selection committee made its final choices only with great difficulty.

I just wanted to post this information from the website noted earlier; it will be useful for future applicants who come across this thread:

FYI for future applicants - when they send out offers a few weeks ahead of rejections they ask recipients to keep their offer confidential until the formal announcement is made. They also ask that offers be accepted or rejected within just a week or so, which leads me to think that they leave themselves time to make offers to alternates before sending out any rejection emails.
