saspur
Microbiology and Virology, which field offers better chance in finding a job? I know this question is too board, since there are a lot of branch areas in microbiology and virology. But I would like to know the general picture of these two fields: which one is more promising? Perhaps I should make it more detailed: studying the genetic mechanism behind microbiology pathogenesis or studying the specific mechanism of virus replication

I am not sure because I am a senior student. By the way, maybe you should compare the supervisor or the school.
robot_hamster
My thought would be microbiology, but that is only because there are so many at my school.
saspur
My thought would be microbiology, but that is only because there are so many at my school. Well, my current position is I'm about to finish all my rotations and need to decide a lab to join, it would be either a microbiology lab or virology lab. And my research project could be: studying the genetic mechanism behind microbiology pathogenesis or studying the specific mechanism of virus replication So I need to think further before making decision. Hatem
studying the genetic mechanism behind microbiology pathogenesis or studying the specific mechanism of virus replication I vote for the second topic! I have just completed stduying a graduate course in virology and I think studying mechanism of virus replication is an improtant, interesting and promising research area. Genomic Repairman
Hi, The debate over the Microbiology and virology is a broad spectrum topic to discuss. But if you choose the Microbiology then there will be a scope for you to work as the virologist, but if you choose virology then you will not have option to work on other micro organism.that is my point of view, any research industry can hire you as a microbiologist, there is an scope in the food industry also. Clenbuterol Unless you do phage work (virology) and then you jump back and forth between the two. So just pick what you find to be the most interesting, but note that a lot has already been worked out in the viral replication field, but there is so much that is wide open in microbiology.
