When I got my undergraduate fellowship from the EPA it took FOREVER to hear something. If you haven't heard anything, it is a good sign because they send out rejection notices before acceptance calls as they are able to weed people out more quickly than they are able to decide on the few that recieve an award. That said, I recieved my rejection packet. Thank goodness for the NSF.

What section did you apply under?

I thought I would pass this info along. I was curious about why I only had the summary review form, whereas everyone else I know got the three review scores, so I asked the contact in my letter what that meant.

In summary, he said that after the proposals go through three reviews, a panel meets to discuss the applications. Those with high scores from all three reviewers get discussed by the entire panel, and if that occurs, you get a summary of the reviews from all panel members. After the panel review, those with a final score of excellent are forwarded to internal review. Apparently about 214 out of 1479 were forwarded to internal review, and they have funding for about 150 awards this year.

Interesting...still waiting here...

Called in last week to the EPA about my application status and finally received a follow-up call today. In short, the contact person said that if you haven't received a declination letter by now then most likely you have made it to the final internal review. Additionally, I was told that it is still a long process at the internal review and to not expect anything quickly.

F1 rejection just received today on the West Coast. Good luck to the rest of you still in the running!!!

fuiaa, did you get a summarized review from the panel or three individual reviews? After reviewing earlier posts, it seems like the longer it takes to get a rejection packet the further you must be advancing.

Hey Frog81. No I got 3 reviews, Good/VeryGood/Excellent with highly varied opinions on all three categories (Merit, Commitment to Envir. Career, and Broader Impacts). I don't think I even had that panel review. As for why it took long to get to me, not sure, maybe because of FON? I noticed the E1 people getting rejections around the same time too. Hope this helps!

Another person in my department also received his rejection letter yesterday with 3 reviews. His went through campus mail so it might have taken a little longer. The letter was dated April 26.

Did anyone on here apply for FON I1 (Human Health: Public Health)?

I applied to I1, but have not heard anything yet...

Don't you just love scuttlebutt? Somebody here heard that EPA's only offering 30 fellowships now due to budget cuts. Any confirmation? Also, It seems like first round rejections might still be trickling out. No word here for J1 on the East Coast. Everyday I chant "NO whammies, NO whammies" when I check my mail. Let the paranoia ensue!

Again, no rejection letter today in the mail. I am sure that rejections are still abound, but I haven't heard anything for J3.

I think BlueSand posted that he/she called he EPA and was told that they had about 150 to give out this year.... so I am not sure that 30 is correct. But I guess we prob wont know until they announce in a few months.

Yes, it was an email response. And it sounded like they had just sent ~214 for internal review, so I am guessing the ~150 awards won't be announced until the May 30th date.

I have no idea how the rejections are being sent for the different FON's, but it sounds like certain groups haven't heard anything yet. (My labmate is K1 and hasn't received anything yet)

Yeah, 150 would be great, of course! Not trying to freak anyone out, just something going around the rumor mill here. Bluesand's info seems more credible. Though I'm curious how in this budget climate that the number increased from the 105 they originally indicated in the RFP. Time will tell! Here's hoping we will continue to hear nothing until the congratulatory phone call. =)

I sure hope so. As for me, I am crawling out of my skin right now. Checked the mail today and no rejection for J3.

I am K1 as well.. no one in K1 posted that they got rejected ... so I wonder if they have not sent them out yet.

Nothing yet from J2 out here on the West coast. Although I haven't heard of any J2-ers getting anything, so they probably haven't started sending our rejections out yet...
