asalmon Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Just got an offer from Purdue Sociology Ph.D. program. Does anybody have any idea about this program? Although I got some information from their website when applying, I would like to know more about this program in order to make my decision. Thanks in advance for help.

asalmon Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 What are your interests? I am interested in institutions, social networks and social movements.
Happy to be here Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 They're one of the better sociology of religion programs out there.
SocCard Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 They're one of the better sociology of religion programs out there. Agreed. The best programs in the region are IU Bloomington (of course) and Cinncinati. But Purdue is pretty close. Louisville's a good up and coming program and the University of Kentucky used to be decent (but they fell apart a few years ago and have been rebuilding since).

I also agree, if you are up for sociology of religion or even political sociology, it might be one of the best programs out there. Ps: I'm soo jelaous of your acceptance, congrats!

I figure that as my decision would affect my life at least in next 5 or 6 years, I might as well make an informed decision. And your help is much appreciated.
stevebaker Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Congrats! It has been increasingly difficult to get in Purdue these years, I know they only select 10 out of nearly 100 applicants for admission each year. BTW,what area are you going into?

Purdue is generally recognized as a big step up from Cincinnati and Louisville, though also a big step down from IU Bloomington. There are a number of other very good schools that are also in the region (Notre Dame, Illinois Urbana-Champaign, all schools in Chicago, etc.).
ZoeWeber Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 To those admitted, first, congratulations!!! Second... do you know if Purdue has already sent out all its admission decisions? I'm applying to the MS and haven't heard from them, so I'm just wondering when my rejection letter will come..

I don't think they have sent out all the admissions yet, why not email the dept. for more info?
