Hello,

I've been diligently researching potential paths for my graduate studies and career in biostatistics, with insightful inputs from forums like Gradcafe. However, I find myself grappling with a few questions and would appreciate any guidance.

Background and Intentions: I am an international student contemplating pursuing my graduate studies in English-speaking countries, such as the US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, with the intention to establish my career there post-studies. My interest lies in industry-oriented roles.

Key Considerations:

  • Biostats VS stats: I enjoy working on topics related to medical and social sciences, with an applied focus, nudges me towards a preference for Biostatistics.
  • PhD VS Master: Due to my lack of a specific drive towards developing new statistical methods, I am keen on exploring Master programs.
  • Focus: I am VERY interested in Bayesian Statistics. In addition, given my enthusiasm for exploring the unknown and making discoveries rather than focusing on prediction accuracy, traditional statistics (Hypothesis Testing, Experimental Design, Causal Inference) resonate more with me than ML or AI.

Specific Questions:

  1. Program and Funding: From various discussions, it seems that program reputation may not be pivotal in securing industry roles. Hence, is funding the most crucial aspect when selecting a master program? If so, would a pragmatic approach involve applying to as many schools as possible to maximize chances of getting funding?
  2. Career Prospects: Given the swiftly evolving nature of industries and job markets, are there specific aspects within biostatistics that you foresee having a particularly high demand or relevance in 2023 and beyond?

Thank you for considering my inquiries.  I fully understand that you might not have answers to both questions, and I wholeheartedly welcome any input.
