Hi everybody. I am applying for the Biostats program at Dalla Lana School of Public Health for 2024 Fall intake into the MCs biostatistics program. This is my top choice of program, so I am very nervous about the outcome. I hope to have my statistics posted here to have a profile review.

Undergrad Institution: University of Toronto
Applied Institution: Dalla Lana School of Public Health at Uoft for MCs Biostatistics
Major(s): Applied Statistics and Mathematics
Grades:
  • cGPA 3.43/4.0
  • Third year average 79.1875 (around 3.6-3.7 ish)
  • Last 5.0 Credits Average 79.6 (Maybe will be in the low 80s after review)
Type of Student: Domestic, male

Research Experience: Two reading/research courses. First one was on mental health of young adults and covid 19, presented at research fair at UofT. Second one was on Tensor on tensor regression for machine learning.
Teaching Experience: Calculus I, Calculus II, Linear Algebra I, Intro to probability and statistics I, Applied statistics
Letters of Recommendation: Both from coursework professors that I have gotten A+ in. One is Associate chair and the other is associate professor. I plan on talking with them about the details of my career goals to strengthen the letter.
Relevant Coursework from least to most recent:
  • Calculus I and II (A-, A)
  • Multivariable calculus(B)
  • Linear algebra I and II (A, A+)
  • Probability and statistics I, II (A-, B)
  • Research project number 1 (A+)
  • Data analysis I and II (C, A-)
  • Stochastic process (B)
  • Ordinary Differential equations (C)
  • Into to statistical learning (A+)
  • Experimental design (A+)
  • surveys and sampling (A+)
  • Combinatorics (A+)
  • Research project number 2 (A-)
  • Introduction to Real Analysis(D+) 🙁
  • Survival analysis (A+)
  • Complex variables (A)
  • Relevant courses taking next semester: time series analysis, data analysis, algebraic cryptography, classical geometry

Languages: R, Python, SAS

Questions:
1. Is my current status realistic to get into the desired program?

Thanks for reviewing my profile. I appreciate any advice and feedbacks.

Hi, not bad enough, from my point of view, I would recommend paying more attention to clearly defining your goals and justifying your choice in favor of biostatistics.
A little advice, of course, I do not know in what format the interview will be held, but an interesting feature may be your attention to low scores in some subjects, namely, indicate what you have done or will do to improve your knowledge of these subjects (the ability to set goals and solve your problems is always an advantage)
