Caeciliusestpater Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I was wondering if anyone had a sense of which schools tend to ask for interviews/at what point you should give up home if you haven't received a request yet. I'm specifically asking in regard to programs with early/mid December deadlines. Do any schools do multiple rounds of asking for interviews? I have not gone through this process before, and just trying to see if I still have a shot an any of the schools I applied to...
confusedmedievalist Posted January 22 Posted January 22 You can look through previous years and see if people have posted interviews for them. I am almost certain, for Classics, there's not multiple rounds, but more that people will get them over a 2-3 week span of time. Plenty of schools also admit without interviews, though, especially if you've spoken to someone ahead of time. In my opinion, you still have a shot until you're actually looking at a rejection, though I also wouldn't get your hopes up either. Even getting an interview guarantees nothing. Best of luck!
heseemstome Posted January 23 Posted January 23 As far as I know, most departments do not typically do multiple rounds of interviews unless they are doing a combination of online, then in-person interviews. As mentioned, there are a number of schools that do admit without interviews (for example, UMich and UWashington did this the year I applied). In my experience, Ivys, UChicago, and UCalifornia schools all typically conduct interviews either in-person or online. Departments also usually interview upwards of a dozen people for (depending on the program size) ~4 spots. In past years, interview requests could go on through mid February, so I wouldn't despair just yet.
