Has anyone received email communication from Guelph MRFT or MP? They said successful candidates will be contacted first early this week. It might be too soon since it is only Monday morning but I can't stop myself from checking my email every five minutes. I thought to channel my energy out on this forum. :D

Hi! I’ve applied to applied social psychology and haven’t heard from them yet! Do you know if they’re working on the same deadline to release the results? And also, do you mean the students are going to be contacted for interview or to the final decision? Have you been interviewed?

Good luck!

I don't think so because MRFT/MP are with the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition not Psychology. Though they share faculty members. Did you meet with potential PIs?

Check out the clinical psychology thread on this forum. Some people might have applied to AS there.

Oh okay! Im trying to find someone who also applied to AS but I didn’t find until now. Yes, I met with potential PI but it was before the application deadline, and he said that at that time he couldn’t confirm that he would take me, but encouraged me to apply. Last week I sent an email but he didn’t reply.

Did you meet with potential PI after the application?

No both programs are course-based so there was no PI selection. I hope you hear from your program soon!

I have been waitlisted. This round was a smaller pool of people so unsure if anyone else was looking for this update. I hope to get off the waitlist but it is a very desired program for a lot of people.

I believe they said they interviewed 40 people and are giving out 24 admissions offers? Meaning (if that's the case), up to 16 people could be waitlisted.

When were both of your interview days? Mine was on Thursday, the last day, so I wonder if that had to do with anything 🥲

Anyways good luck to you both, let's keep each other updated!

My interview was on Tuesday, the first day.

Hi, I was also interviewed on Tuesday and got waitlisted as well.  The email said that we would hear feedback during the week of March 11,  but given that this program has been on hiatus for a couple of years, I find it difficult for anyone to refuse their acceptance.  I am just guessing, but the 16 that were not selected out of the 40 were waitlisted even before the interviews occurred but were using the interviews to rank the waitlisted people.  From what I understand, OSAP will not cover the program's start, and students will have to pay the 18k tuition out of pocket; there is a 48-hour turnaround to accept the offer.  Also this program Is 'in class', so no online option for the first year at the very least, these to me are why some students may refuse their offer to Guelph.   After speaking with the admissions members, I think they used unfair criteria to select their "favourites." I have spoken to quite a few students that I saw from the interview day, and there were certainly biases like, for some, their age, gender, ethnicity, and whether they knew professors from the program.  Some students with better criteria than me were not even interviewed.  Sometimes, I wish there was more transparency in the selection process, but this is how the system works. For those of you on the waitlist, good luck!!

I was also from the Tuesday interview. Yeah, it's hard to know what they're looking for to narrow down the candidate pool. I emailed the admission's team asking if it's possible to know my waitlist rank and they never responded 😕 It does seem likely that all who didn't get into the first round of admissions got waitlisted, but it's impossible to know. The anticipation is killing me lol I just want to knowwww

I love that.  The anticipation is killing me too.  I have not checked my email as often these past few weeks as I have all year!  Anyway, good luck to you!  I only found out anything because I emailed them before they sent out the results, and since they offered, "If you have any questions, please let us know," I took them up on their offer and asked many questions.  It was when I got waitlisted that I realized, oh crap, I might have pushed the envelope, but let's see, we have to keep our fingers crossed!

I'm sorry, but I have lost faith in this process due to the lack of transparency and communication regarding who and how many people are on waitlists.  I have yet to hear of anyone being accepted.  So, if I hear a word, I will certainly let you know, but in all fairness, I, too, feel as if my chances slipped when I was waitlisted.  Given the previous communication I received, I was sure we would have heard something by today.  Anyway, by the end of this week, we will know something; probably not the news we hoped for, but it will certainly be closure!  Best of luck ;)

Hello, everyone.  I recently had a conversation with the admissions staff regarding the waitlist status.  I sent them an inquiry and was pleased to receive a prompt response.  However, I was informed that waitlisted students might have to wait another month before hearing back from the university.  Additionally, I was advised that once a spot opens up, Shauna Porter - the designated admissions officer - will immediately notify the student at the top of the waitlist.  Based on this information, I might be further down the waitlist than I had hoped, and only a few lucky students will be offered a spot.  Unfortunately, it seems like a waiting game, and although Guelph was my first choice, I feel the work I put in to get into this program was overlooked and might place a higher priority on my alternate school choices just because it feels good to be wanted!  Again, best of luck to all of you who hoped to get into Guelph!

Thanks for sharing this! I wish they would personally update those waitlisted since they did inform us that we should hear back around these dates. Does that mean no one from the first round of admission has denied their offer??

Although I cannot say for certain, I suspect there has been no movement on the waitlist from what I can gather, and so, yes, likely, those selected have not officially rejected their offer.  However, I could not agree with you more, especially when so many students are already anxiety-ridden about their status and holding out for an offer; they could have personally indicated where on the waitlist students are placed and then provided some guidance on approximate timelines.  I do not know how you all feel about the situation, but it stings to make the waitlist for me.  Sitting in limbo is far worse, though, and every day, wondering what will happen.  It's almost like knowing you are going to the electric chair but not knowing when!  This is why I decided to share what was happening; it's quite maddening to have no idea what is going on.  So, I hope the earlier update gives you some solace.  It will take more time before we hear anything from Guelph.

Hi all,

I finally heard back from the admissions team and I got an offer (I got into my first choice, which was the MP program)! They never responded to my initial question about my rank in the waitlist so I can't be certain how many people they contacted before me or how many they might contact after me. Hope you all receive some good news soon!

Oh hey, that's awesome!! Great news and I wish you the best in your studies.

By the way, when did you hear back from them? Did they call or email you?

Congratulations.  I, too, have had some conversations with the admissions department and saw that they are very particular about who they get back to, but it's great to know that someone got in from this chat.  I hope you enjoy the program.

Best wishes!

Hmmm, very interesting. Would you care to share more about your insights on this? I'm just curious as to what kind of particularities they were looking for, I did email about wait-list placement but never got an response. No pressure though!

Happy to dm (if theres a function).
