Mak SLP Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Hi everyone! Congratulations to everyone who got accepted! And to those who were waitlisted or didn’t get in this time, don’t give up! It took me two years to get into the program, and I can tell you that all the hard work and stress are worth it. Keep pushing! I wanted to share that I have a 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home for rent for those accepted to Western University’s SLP program. Rent is $900/month plus utilities. I had the privilege of living with fellow SLP students during my two years in the program, and it was the best decision I made! We were all on the same schedule, which made studying and assignments so much easier. If you’re interested in learning more or would like to see pictures, feel free to text me at 647-459-3548. My name is Makayla! Congrats again, and I hope to chat soon! 😊 Also, since many people are asking, what is the groupchat for western SLP?
BeenatheSLP Posted April 17 Posted April 17 If I haven’t received a waitlist offer yet, am I to assume I won’t receive one? Anyone know what the cut off day is to receive an offer?

Anyone know what the cut off day is to receive an offer? Where did you apply? It seems like Dalhousie is yet to send some of their decisions as it seems like many people are still waiting to hear from them, but as for other schools I’m not sure if they are still sending decisions out or not. And you’ve checked for anything accidentally sorted to a spam/junk folder? From what I understand, for all Canadian SLP programs, the deadline to accept initial offers was April 15th. So now that April 15th has passed most schools are probably starting to send out offers to people who were waitlisted. But that doesn’t mean it was a deadline for them sending all decisions, just their first round of acceptances. I would imagine waitlist decisions could still be sent out. I’m sorry you haven’t heard anything yet, that is frustrating.
speechitup Posted April 17 Posted April 17 anybody know if there has been any movement for UofT's waitlist?

Anyone know what the cut off day is to receive an offer? I believe most waitlist offers have been going out after April 15. Depending on the school, I would still wait as I've heard some people getting offered a spot from now until May, sometimes even August. It kinda sucks cause we never really know when we'll get off the waitlist, but I wouldn't assume you won't receive one. It's still early! My fingers are crossed for you!! BeenatheSLP 1

Anyone know what the cut off day is to receive an offer? Western sends out waitlist offers every 24 hours, depending on acceptances vs rejections. They send out an offer, wait 24 hours to hear back, and then depending on the response, continue to move down the list. In theory, people could back out of their spot or hear from another school elsewhere up until classes start, so it is difficult to say whether or not you will hear back. But I can't imagine any schools send all their waitlist offers out in one day, as they could receive too many or too few acceptances and then be in a tough situation. BeenatheSLP 1
montrealaspiringslp Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Hi! Does anyone know if there is a certain GPA necessary to maintain for admission into McGill's program? I just received an offer but am curious as to if I need to maintain the current GPA I have or if it can go down at all. Thanks!

slpont Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Hello! Is there a facebook group chat or anything made for UBC SLP? I am out of province (Ontario) and res does not look promising as I didn't know I needed to apply with my general SLP application. If anyone else is looking for housing or has any advice for UBC Van living please let me know.

I am an ON resident and was wondering if there is any point applying to UBC. Has any from Ontario or out of province been admitted to UBC. It seems they reserve most seats for in province applicants and if I'm understanding the application requirements correctly it seems applicants also need to take online UBC courses AUDI 402 and 403. I would love to apply to UBC but only if I had a realistic chance of being admitted. Hey! I graduated from UBC SLP in 2023 and I think 4 people from our class in total were from our of province, just to give you an idea Also, re: finding equivalent courses for 402/403, if you are going to submit an alternative, submit it early. It took them months to get back to me about mine being approved Jules_SLP 1
Jules_SLP Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Thanks. It seems like being an out of province applicant, my odds are pretty bad but if I have the prerequisites I will try and see. I have already submitted an inquiry with the sylabii for some of my courses and have not heard back for weeks. I thought they were busy with admissions but I guess they are just slow.

muslp Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Hi everyone! I just accepted my offer to UofA on April 23rd, and I wanted to share my stats in case anyone was wondering as I don't have the most complete application. I was originally on the waitlist for UofA and managed to get off it very last minute! My stats: GPA = 3.76 CASPER = 2nd quartile Bachelors of Science in Psychology at UofC, and only completed about 7 linguistic courses References = only 2/3 submitted theirs on time, and I was worried my application would be rejected, but it wasn't (though, the two that were submitted were academic references, so I'm not sure if that's why it was still allowed) Volunteer experience = none, I only helped teach at a math tutoring centre Work experience = I work as a music teacher and vocal coach. So I teach a wide range of ages and people with different levels of experiences and needs. Many of the children I teach do go to speech therapy and use music as an extension of their therapy, and I used my experiences with those children in my SOI. I also had a lot of experience with DEI in the way I've tackled specific situations in my teaching career, whether it was dealing with stigma from parents or helping adult students get past a language barrier to help them sing better. Fun fact: One of my academic references was actually a professor from abroad in Singapore. I was in their class about language and music during my semester abroad and I tied in a lot of those experiences into my SOI as well Overall, this is for anyone who doesn't think their stats are good enough or if they haven't taken the conventional method of attaining experience. I was sure I wouldn't get in and needed to do more SLP related things in my life before I could consider applying next time, so getting off the waitlist was a very surreal experience for me. I felt like everything was against me except my SOI, and I'm really thankful to my two references as I don't think anything else could have gotten me through this far. Keep being your most authentic selves! It will pay off! _Iris_ 1
jesSLP Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Congratulations to everyone as offers become firm. I wanted to share that I have a lead on a furnished 3-bedroom apartment for UofA Augustana campus and would love to find roomates in the SLP cohort. Rent is $720/month each and includes all utilities and is less than a 10 minute walk to campus. Please message me as soon as possible if this is something you'd be interested in!
