Aria21 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 I need advice please. I've decided I want to be an SLP after studying to become a researcher. I don't know where to go from here. I'm currently in my final year of my undergraduate degree (Honours - Biomedical Sciences) in Canada. I always thought I would go into research, particularly related to the brain and I took many classes geared towards that. Now wrapping up my degree, I can confidently say that I do not want my life career to be research and instead have decided I want to be an SLP. Unfortunately, upon further investigation I have discovered that I do not meet the requirements to be admitted into these programs. My gpa is way too low. My university doesn't use a traditional scale so I didn't even realize how bad it is. My cgpa at my university is a B+ but that apparently translates to a 2.3/4.0???? B+ for us is 75%. Students admitted to SLP programs in Canada are mostly hanging around 3.9 so any attempt to get in would be utterly futile. Furthermore, I have not taken linguistics classes or participated in the programs required by the USA, or had any related shadowing/volunteer experience. I'm really starting from 0 here. I looked at taking a post-bacc here to take certain linguistics classes but I was told I have to wait 2 year after graduating to do that because I need to be a "mature student". I don't see any use in applying to Canada so under the assumption that I will get this degree in the USA, where do I go from here? I'm not even competitive for American schools let alone having the prerequisite classes. I would love any tips, guidance, or personal stories that may help me. I feel completely stumped but I know this is what I want to do. Please Also, I know beggars can't be choosers but I'm also trying to pay attention to the cost of things. I can't afford some of these international tuitions let alone the living cost of America. Jim VK 1
