Beachybeach Posted April 16 Posted April 16 For those who have heard. Did you also apply to Vanier or are these straight CGS-D applications?
xbsda Posted April 16 Posted April 16 4 hours ago, Beachybeach said: I don't think there is a difference. They were all merging to be the same following the new budget and update. Both are 40,000 over 3 years now. Can anyone who got the PGSD this year confirm that it is actually for 40,000? I found the official website quite confusing.
screaming Posted April 16 Posted April 16 The CIHR website says the funding notification will go out on April 30th - does it ever come out early?? It seems that the NSERC applicants heard back today (and the reported notification date online is supposed to be April 30th), but I'm not sure if that includes only the Vanier applicants, or the CGSD applicants too.
Moleculwiz Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I’m also starting to think that those who have posted here might be Vanier applicants, and the rest of us probably need to wait until April 30. Hopefully, those who have received their results can clarify this.

The fact that I heard from both within 24 hours may mean that we were told of our CGS-D result to decline it if we choose to and let others get that opportunity. Interesting theory
phdeeing Posted April 16 Posted April 16 It is worth saying that the last page of the Vanier results document says "our records show that you were awarded CGS-D, you should choose one to keep"

BobertTheGobert Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Also got both the Vanier and CGS-D (notified yesterday) but I know someone else who got the Vanier but has not heard their CGS-D result yet.
oatmilkluver Posted April 16 Posted April 16 (edited) Hi all! I heard back from my institution (grad program coordinator) today- and I'm pleased to report that I got one of the CGS/PGS-D awards (under NSERC; unspecified which type of award)! Haven't received any communications from NSERC so far though so don't count yourself out if you're still waiting. Good luck to everyone!! Edited April 16 by oatmilkluver

Got result for CGS-D yesterday.

Got result for CGS-D yesterday. Interesting! Did you hear directly from NSERC or from your uni? If it is not based on Vanier the rollout seems almost random?
babooshka Posted April 17 Posted April 17 (edited) Congratulations to all who have been successful! Has anyone heard back about SSHRC or are these all NSERC? Thank you Edited April 17 by babooshka

I heard it directly from NSERC. I don't know if it's random or not. Judging that many people here also gotten their Vanier, it is possible that they are going by the order from top ranked applicants first.
poupou Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Congrats to all! Pitching in more data: I applied to CGS-D. Haven't heard back from either university or NSERC yet. My application is still marked as "received" on the website I applied.
xrb936 Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 I haven’t heard anything from either NSERC and my institution yet. I guess it means that I didn’t get it. So sad.
kevinzhang123 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 So far, all the posts I have read in this forum are from applicants who got their results for the NSERC CGS-D (Canada Graduate Scholarships - Doctoral program). Has anyone heard from the NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships – Doctoral (PGS D) program?

kevinzhang123 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I know the monetary amount for the CGS-D and PGS-D is the same. However, the CGS-D is restricted to students pursuing their graduate studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution, while the PGS-D does not have this restriction. Therefore, if your university nominated you for the NSERC scholarship, you will likely be nominated for the CGS-D. Perhaps the CGS-D provides the decisions slightly before the PGS-D, as they must first inform the university of the decision. This is why some people in their forum have said they heard from their university that they received the CGS-D scholarship, but have not received the official email from NSERC. Also, I think even if you were to be rejected by NSERC for CGS-D or PGS-D, you will be given an official notification.

That being said, based on the experiences of past years, CGS-D and PGS-D results are rolling out together because they have the same ranking lists and committee members.
kevinzhang123 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Based on your experience last year, did they send out the successful applications first? Also, when did you provide the results notification date-wise?
Relativitass Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Not sure if this helps anyone but I got an email this morning and I was rejected again. I expected as much. I'm so weak and according to every awards committee ever extremely stupid.

Moleculwiz Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I just got my rejection letter from NSERC. So, it might be based on ranking.
oatmilkluver Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Another update: I received a formal notice from NSERC this morning (5:40 am pst) and access to the portal to view my results. While the letter specifies $120,000 over 4 years (same funding amount as CGSD), it also states that I was awarded the PGSD, which probably means I ranked on the lower end of people who received funding. Does anyone know if this means I won't be eligible for the Michael Smith Foreign Study supplement? I know they're harmonizing and re-launching this award, too, but historically, you're required to have a "CGS." Lastly, I just (moments before posting this) received another email from NSERC to my institutional email (not sure how they got this as I never put this on any documents I submitted) titled "Reminder for completing the PDF and PGS award holders questionnaire" - the first few lines seem to indicate that they are aware of my successful funding status. Hope this info helps somewhat, and fingers crossed for everyone who's still waiting!! xrb936 and txc3h02 2
