Based on your experience last year, did they send out the successful applications first? Also, when did you provide the results notification date-wise?

In the past few years, people were constantly trying to find out their email order, but no one could confirm. Emails were definitely sent out within one week. Occasionally, the turnaround time was as short as three days. Personally, I can only tell you that the sooner you get the email, the better your chances.

was notified like 2 seconds ago, did not get it

I assume you also got the email and were sent to an external website so you can log in and see the results.

Got confirmed with my institution’s graduate office that I didn’t get it. Good luck with the application in next year, I guess?

Finally got my email just now. Was awarded the PGS-D 120,000 over 36 months, so exact same as CGS-D. Unclear whether there is any difference now.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

congrats!!! what university are you with?

I'm so sorry, I can't imagine how frustrating that must be. It's so random & subjective; it's normal to feel upset, but please remember that these grants don't determine your ability or potential. The slots are so limited.

Keep your head up! Many more opportunities to come beyond NSERC/CGS-D.

Which committee are you with? Hopefully it’s not committee 201. Probably you need to try with another committee.

Not sure if it helps, but if you're like me, receiving the email late this morning and thinking it must be a rejection as it's been so late, you still have a chance. I got PGS, and I received the email at 11 AM EST.

Does anyone here have a successful NSERC CGS-D or PGS-D application that they'd be willing to share? My application this year was unsuccessful, but I plan to apply again in October.

Any insight or suggestions for next year's application will be much appreciated.

If you are not comfortable sharing it on the forum, please message me privately. Also, if sharing personal information is an issue for you, you are welcome to delete the pages that display your personal contact information.

You can find some examples in previous PGS-D topics from this forum; I can not recall which one it is, but you can Google it.

To be honest, I do not think it is very helpful to look at the proposals and personal profiles of other successful applications; it does not help you improve your own. Here's why:

1. It is really up to your review committee members. What are their backgrounds? Do they have any knowledge of your study? If so, why is it impressive to them? If not, how can you ensure they understand what you are proposing?

2. It also depends on the profiles of your other competitors in the same committee. For instance, three first-author peer-reviewed articles in prestigious conferences or journals do not make you a strong candidate if you are in a hot research area, like CV/ML. However, if you are in an engineering field, one conference proceedings and one poster presentation can earn you a CGS-D.

3. There are many things that you cannot change, including your social activities, your prior scholarships, your GPA in undergraduate or graduate school, etc.

Therefore, do not waste your time trying to improve your current proposal. If you want to try again later, publish papers, go to conferences, socialize more, and—above all—change the topics of your proposals and move to a different committee with less competition and more confidence.

BTW, from 2025, all Tri-agency awards are combined as the Canada Research Training Awards Suite (CRTAS), and the application will be open in the summer of 2025, which means there isn't much time for your next application. Do it now!

Thank you so much for the advice. One thing you mentioned above is the committee that is assessing my application. When you say CV/ML, what are you referring to? This year, I submitted my application for the civil engineering committee but was rejected.

I was talking about computer vision and machine learning. It is a very competitive research area.

My application was submitted to civil engineering (committee 201) and rejected as well. Committee 201 is regarded as another competitive committee for various reasons. It might be helpful to reach out to NSERC to determine your ranking within that committee. If you are within the top 50%-60%, I would say you may still have a chance to get it.

Do you happen to know of any committees that aren't too competitive? I am an electrical engineer; my research proposal assessed climate change's impact on road infrastructure, which is why I submitted it to the civil engineering committee. However, perhaps I should have submitted in the field of data science, but I couldn't find it in some of the committee selection options.

I applied directly to SSHRC for the Doctoral Award. I got an email acknowledging my application, they even asked me for some missing documents and signed off with their last email saying everything is good on their end. When I log on to the application portal, nowhere does it say that my application is in progress or submitted.. which is really worrying me now. it just shows me my name under Curr. Because earlier it said in progress or submitted ( sorry i am forgetting the exact phrase because this is my first time applying but i do remeber it had indicted that my application went through )  and I woudl not have receievd an email of acknolawdgemnt on November 13th if something was incomplete or wrong with my application - correct?  On Nov 19th,I had someone email me asking me for official undergraduate transcripts, which I also sent over. Is this a system glitch when they are updating the results?

Hi! I'm pretty sure it has to be a result of the review/notification process, because I had no hiccups with my application. I saw it on the online portal several times between applying and checking this month, and it as always there. Only this month has it disappeared. I don't imagine it's anything to worry about too much :)

They remove the apps from that one site. And when they send the letters today, it will provide a link to a completely different site. Was unsuccessful last year, so I still have the same link and access to it. No info yet but it'll start rolling in at different times. Last year it was alphabetical and in peacemeal (as it crashed the system).
