UhOh Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) -I have a 3.2 gpa B.A. in anthro -3.5 gpa M.S. in an unrelated discipline (although it has a slight criminal justice component) -950 GRE (I could take it again I suppose) -No relevant work experience Do I stand any chance at being accepted into CUNY's Soc PHD program? I know all other NYC metro area schools are out of the question. Edited January 30, 2011 by UhOh

HOWEVER, perhaps you have an amazing SoP, methodologically sound/well written writing sample, and very supportive letters of recommendation---all of those items will make a difference. I am not sure what the rest of your story is, so it is hard to say. If you have a clear research goal and communicate this through your statement, then perhaps there is a chance. At this point, without knowing your entire situation, I would say, try increasing your GRE score, write an incredible statement, and edit your best academic sample for the fall 2012 applications. Best of luck! Edited January 30, 2011 by Bonkers
frenchfries Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I applied to the Grad Center for a PhD in Sociology this year. Anyone have any idea when they get in touch with applicants? BTW... I am completing an MA in Gender Studies there this semester. 3.75 undergrad, 3.8 grad, 620V, 660M, 5 W. Anyone else wanna share their stats, fears, admissions info?
misskitty Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I'm waiting to hear from The Grad Center for Sociology too! Similar stats as yours, lower undergrad GPA, same Masters GPA (Library & Info. Science), 700V 680Q, 5AW. I have some research experience, pretty good reccomendations, too. Really good fit, there are several profs I want to study/work. But I am nervous! We'll see pretty soon, last year I believe decisions were made around this time. I applied to the Grad Center for a PhD in Sociology this year. frenchfries Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Yes, I've been reviewing last years acceptances/rejections in the results section and now am on pins and needles knowing most of my schools do acceptances in early-mid Feb and follow up with rejections. I can't decide if this website is comforting or not! Hahaha! At least we can all stress and commiserate together. Let's all keep each other posted.
barilicious Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Good luck! My undergrad mentor got his PhD from CUNY, and I would have applied if it wasn't for their foreign language requirement. It is definitely an awesome program!
