Research interest for phD Biochemistry program interview

I am an undergraduate student, applying for a phD program. I will be having an interview for a Biochemistry phD program, but I don’t know what specific research interest yet. I wonder how specific does the interviewer want to hear from the applicants. Thank you!

hey! most programs expect you to have a very specific proposed topic. you can chance it along the way, but they want to see you’re able to come up with important research to solve a question that has never been done, explain how you’d do it in 5 years, explain why its important that the research exists, and explain why it would be a good fit for the department. good luck! 

 

undergrad is learning a lot of general things, masters specialize, phds are producing knowledge. u become the most knowledgeable person on earth on the thing u study!
