While obsessively checking the status of my online applications, I happened to see that I had been assigned a student number for the University of Arizona. Before today, the box where my student number would have been said "NOT AVAILABLE." Not any more. Normally, I wouldn't think twice about being assigned a student number, as during my undergrad apps, I was assigned a student number for all my applications. Does this mean anything? Impending letter of acceptance? Hitting F5 on the email inbox again. Just to make sure.

I don't think it necessarily means anything, since some schools automatically assign an ID number for applicants. Perhaps they have finished processing your application and it's available for the adcomm to review? Perhaps someone who has direct knowledge of Arizona's system could tell you if it means something specific.

At the very least it's nice to know there has been some progress made on my application. I guess it depends on the school, as you said, whether or not an ID number assignment means anything.

Yeah I agree with not thinking it is an acceptance. I received an ID when I submitted my application to them originally.

Did you ever hear, Fanciful Unicorn? I just noticed that I have an ID number associated with my application now too. Trying not to read into it, but I need some good news at this point!

Sorry to say, but no, it does not mean anything. I work for UA. Your application is entered in one computer system, but in order to be evaluated it needs to be pushed into another system. This typically happens automatically, but it can take weeks/months. Once the application is pushed over, an ID number is created to allow it to be tracked in the new system. Every applicant is assigned an ID number, however, regardless of their status.

Thank you for the information :D Although it's not indicative of an acceptance, progress is progress!
