  1. I can't speak much for the program because of direct knowledge, but I go to UW and I have heard very good things about the program. I know it isn't much to base a decision off of, but at least you now have 0.01 cents.
  2. I am having some trouble deciding between two schools, and what they have to offer. After doing a lot of research on the internet and coming across a huge variation in opinion, I thought it might be best to ask for some more opinions. Between LSE's MSc in International Relations, and UCSD's Master's of Pacific International Affairs program, it is difficult to discern which is "better," and which one I should attend. By better, I have a specific idea in mind. After I finish my Master's, I would like to continue on to a PhD, with the eventual goal of teaching at a university. It isn't clear if either university has a competitive advantage for getting into a PhD program. Another item to consider is that LSE would be relatively expensive for a U.S. student due to the exchange rates, while UCSD, even if not awarded any funds (decision will be made mid-march), working is always an option. Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.
  3. Thank you for the information Although it's not indicative of an acceptance, progress is progress!
  4. I would read this as a neutral e-mail. From what I understand (depending on the University) your application for a TA position isn't always completed in direct parallel with your application to the school. If you don't pass the background check, I would believe there is a high chance you won't be offered a place. On the other hand, passing the background check will put you that much closer to being admitted!
  5. I'm sorry to hear that you did not get any funding. I would imagine it to be very frustrating! Although it isn't any consolation, funding at many universities has simply dried up. Even at the undergrad level, there is barely any money to go around. I wouldn't take it too hard, or as a judgement of your personal abilities.
  6. At the very least it's nice to know there has been some progress made on my application. I guess it depends on the school, as you said, whether or not an ID number assignment means anything.
  7. While obsessively checking the status of my online applications, I happened to see that I had been assigned a student number for the University of Arizona. Before today, the box where my student number would have been said "NOT AVAILABLE." Not any more. Normally, I wouldn't think twice about being assigned a student number, as during my undergrad apps, I was assigned a student number for all my applications. Does this mean anything? Impending letter of acceptance? Hitting F5 on the email inbox again. Just to make sure.
