Suit up, bring copies of your recent work, and get thank you notes in the mail before you hope on the plane home so that they arrive at their destination quickly. My husband was one of the few candidates at a recent interview weekend who wore a suit, but he was offered admission, so it's better to dress up than to dress down.
nhs0001 Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 Thanks EJ, I don't understand about the thank you notes??? Secondly current work copy means shud I get some results of my recent work which has not published yet? nhs0001 Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 I submitted my application before December 1st. One last question when did you turn your application in?
Sevi Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I had my interview at UTHSC-H at the end of January. They're really friendly and laid-back so don't fret! Know questions you'd like to ask, you don't need to wear a suit but rather just slacks and a nice shirt, comfortable shoes to walk in, and extra clothes to go out in. The current grad students took us out and I know I personally don't want to go to a chill pub/bar or little R&B club in slacks and collared shirt. Have fun!! They really try to make it enjoyable! Don't worry!
nhs0001 Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks Sevi, What kind of question they ask in the interview? Is it mainly about our current research project or about their own research? Nitin I had my interview at UTHSC-H at the end of January. They're really friendly and laid-back so don't fret! Sevi Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Thanks Sevi, What kind of question they ask in the interview? Is it mainly about our current research project or about their own research? Nitin Most of it was honestly just chit-chat. All the faculty were super friendly. No one really asked me about my research projects other than what field it was in and what model organisms I was using. A few went into (very enthusiastic) explanations of their current projects. Don't be shy to ask if you can see their lab spaces or ask if you can email them later for more information. It's very casual and actually a lot of fun. Don't panic! Smile and relax! Enjoy the opportunity to talk like friends with people who are very passionate about science and very kind individuals like yourself.

Sevi Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Thanks Sevi for all this information, usually after interview in how much time they reply about their decision? About 2 weeks is average. They got pretty quick.
Kshipra Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 About 2 weeks is average. They got pretty quick. Hi all, I have my GSBS interview in the last week of March. I have few questions and would really appreciate if someone can help me out.. 1) Mine is the 4th round of interview. (The last round is in april) Is it true that the chances of getting an 'admit' are less if you are in the last few rounds? 2) I know in some schools this interview thing is a very serious business while in others it is just a formality i.e. if you are called for an interview you can be sure that you will get selected..what kind of policy does GSBS have? Do they take everyone who comes for the interview or they really 'select' people? 3) Can anyone tell me what kind of questions they asked? Thank you very much.

I know that the offers of GSBS (about 10) have already sent, and the others are admission. Most of applicants should seek financial aid from the faculty directly. In the later round of interview, we have the chance to be admitted, but the financial aid is more difficulty to find.

Hey thanks for your reply. I did not understand what you mnt by ' the offers of GSBS (about 10) have already sent, and the others are admission'. What is the difference between offers and admissions? Also, the PI will be decided at the end of the first year (after rotations) so how can any applicant get the financial aid from the faculty directly? Sorry if I am understanding it wrongly. Can you explain? Thank you.

I think although the students should rotation one year, the professor who aids you can decide your work in his lab. Now many applicants who got admmision are looking for fund.
