Guest bubuli Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Hi, I'm an international student applying to an MFA program in Studio Art in the same university where my husband is pursuing his PhD in engineering. The school is so close to where we live and all this time I had the chance to visit the classes and meet with the faculty to make myself known to them, but I did not because I was not aware I could do this due to my lack of knowledge of how the US grad school system works. And now I just found out that other prospective students in my situation had visited the faculty of their interest and had been attending their classes, some even went as far as asking for and getting recommendation letters from professors they are going to work with. Wow.. that never crossed my mind. I was just so naive. Well, at least I did have a chance to meet and talk with the Graduate Program Director of my program but not to the professor in my particular field. Is it a good idea to approach the faculty now that I have submitted my application (deadline was Feb 1)? Is it too late now to introduce myself, visit their classes, show my work, etc to appeal for admission to their program? Would this be a positive or negative effect to my application? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Edited February 15, 2011 by bubuli
TMP Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 No, you are too late. By e-mailing now, it will make you look like you're trying to suck up. You just gotta sit patiently and twiddle your thumbs while waiting.
