lalala1 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 i really hope that this doesn't come across as a silly question, but... recently, we were given the contact information for the rest of our incoming classmates for next year. i got a couple of mass e-mails from a girl who was looking for a roommate, but since i am moving with my SO, i'm obviously not looking for someone to live with. anyway, i thought it would be nice to just send out something introducing myself and saying hi. well... this has been like 5 days ago and no one has responded. which wouldn't be that big of a deal, but i also said something like... "oh... feel free to add me on facebook if you want..." and no one has done that either... i guess i just wonder if i seemed a little overly excited or something... i don't know.??
StarvingStudentYeah Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Having not read the email it's hard to know how you sounded, but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. How many people are we talking about here? A lot of them could just be real busy, and have an interest in writing and just can't get to it until the weekend. Also, what is your field. If it's philosophy, or English, or creative field I could see you worrying a bit, but if it's law, or accounting, or some other field known to be inhabited by less than personable folks I'd say it's norm not to hear anything back. Regardless, I wouldn't stress. I doubt friendliness and enthusiasm will get you docked many points.
lalala1 Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 well, it's psychology, and they're ALL girls... which is why i was a little surprised. i mean, i'm sure it's nothing to worry about... i know that they are mostly still in undergrad (i'm not...) so i have a LOT more time on my hands than they do. thanks for the reassurance, though! i mean, when i reread it, i don't think it sounds weird or anything... i guess i'm just nervous and probably have a little TOO much time on my hands to worry about weird things.
Minnesotan Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Are you implying that girls are more personable, or that they have more time on their hands? =)
lalala1 Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 haha, more personable... or... i guess, more likely to respond to an "add me on facebook!" at my current job i have TONS of free time... lots of which i spend playing around on facebook and myspace. i know you can't tell a WHOLE lot about someone from their facebook profile, but i always do like to see what their interests are, what kind of music they like, stuff like that.... of course now i feel weird adding all of them, since none of them added me! haha
crustaceangirl Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 One of my future classmates just did this today. And, for the record, it was a guy. ;-) I tried to add him on Facebook but he has a pretty common name and I couldn't figure out which one was him. Alas. I will have to kill time some other way.
lalala1 Posted April 9, 2008 Author Posted April 9, 2008 yes, my name is common as well and one of the girls wrote me back a couple days after the OP and was like "i couldn't find you...??" i've gotten a couple of other responses now and so i'm feeling a lot better
UndraftedFreeAgent Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I might also add that some of us don't check facebook every day, nor the undergrad email accounts with which they are connected. But I'm glad your classmates are starting to respond. Also, *some* of our employers block facebook/myspace (but thankfully are unaware of gradcafe 8) )
