lolopixie Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 If there was just one magical date that all schools adhered to in advising of results. Admits, waitlists, and rejection all coming in one swoop. We could all schedule the next day off of work because either way we're drinking! And all this haunting the internet and graduate secretaries wouldn't be necessary. Ahhh in a perfect world... Clearly, I haven't heard a result at all yet. I'm trying to piece together word choices and encoded phrases to see what people really mean.'hang in there' - translation: either I'm in or you're trying to soften the blow. Leave it to English majors to over analyze every detail of every word choices in every medium...we will get to the bottom of it!! /rant wreckofthehope 1

That way I wouldn't undulate violently through periods of despair ("I am doomed to a life of minimum wage work! I will be barred from academia forever!") and periods of fragile hope ("Multiple acceptances and rejections have been posted already... but maybe TOMORROW I'll get my acceptance email!"). It'll end eventually.
murkyama Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I don't know about the one fell swoop of a date. I like the sporadic dates; I get a rejection and then recover, waiting and hoping for the next piece of correspondence. I've seen people on here post getting two rejections in one day, and wow, that is hard. Just hard. I've also seen people on here post applying to over 20 programs. Could you imagine getting all the results, acceptances and rejections in one day? It's a crash bomb. An explosion of information. Could we really handle it? Would we be on pins and needles until then waiting for those bits of information just like now? I do like that there is a date that some programs adhere to, April 15th. A drop dead deadline. Perhaps it's taint we get from programs that admit early where our anxieties about admits and rejects fluctuate. murkyama 1
