  1. Someone was accepted off the waitlist?! (So says the results board.) Do tell!
  2. I'm bringing everything. Six boxes at this point. It's going to burn a hole in my pocket but I really can't leave any of them behind!
  3. THIS. I just met my boy two weeks ago, and I leave this Monday. Why couldn't my timing be better?! Aside from that, I too have nothing packed and continue to squander the hours away on the internet, rather than figuring out how to transport six or seven boxes full of books.
  4. Bumping this thread because I'll be attending UF's English program this fall! Very excited. So...hi everyone!
  5. Yaaay! I don't check this thread in 2 days and when I return, it's all rainbows and sunshine! Remember when we were angst-ridden just a few months ago?
  6. I've been accepted to (and will attend) UF's fully-funded MA program; however, the English department director told me that within the next few years, they will begin to phase out the MA and have a PhD only program. Just throwing that out there. But for the time being, it's an amazing deal with a fairly large stipend, especially considering the cost of living in Gainesville.
  7. Sometimes as I'm going through the craziness of my day, I stop and remind myself Hey...I'll be in school in 4 months and it makes the rest of my workday bearable <--- (sunglasses to try to play it cool, but in truth, I am ridiculously giddy)
  8. I hope it works out for you, M&S! It's not official yet, but I'm going to go with UF's fully funded MA program
  9. May I just take this moment to say that I love the versatility of the sunglasses emoticon. We've all used it to express everything from apprehension to contentment to unbridled fear.
  10. If this influences you at all, I sometimes forget Rutgers is not an """"official"""" Ivy, because it is so highly ranked. Go for Rutgers. ...And make sure there's a spot for Trip, of course
  11. I just returned from UF's open house weekend and found it to be a great experience. I'm fairly positive I will accept. If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me and I can give you some details.
  12. Best of luck, ribeth! I will be declining my acceptance (MA) so I hope it helps you out!
  13. My fellow waitlistees, I received the following email today after I inquired into my placement on the list: "Dear ---, As stated in my email below, we have a second round of applications to process by April 15th, and the situation remains in flux until then. I understand that this date may be later than you would like, considering you have other offers, but do know that we will be in touch immediately if a place opens up for you. In the meantime, please let me know if I can be of any more help to you." So that sounds...not so great.
  14. I thought I had my decision made until I was waitlisted at Georgetown. Now, because I can't have it, I want nothing more than to get in. Quit playin' games with my heart, Georgetown.
  15. Waitlisted as well! Georgetown is one of my top choices so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I have a fully-funded offer from another school, so if Georgetown doesn't come through with funding then I'll have to remove myself from the list as well. Good luck to all of us
  16. UGH, this is awful! I'm so sorry But hey, you're in at Temple! That's pretty awesome.
  17. Just going to echo everyone's sentiments and suggest WSU. I am in a similar position with CUNY's Master of Liberal Arts program and UF's fully funded MA. I have a feeling I'm going to accept UF's offer. At both schools, I will be preparing myself for PhD applications, but this way I won't go (completely) broke. Also, like Trip said, I believe ranking is less important for MAs than for PhDs.
  18. I will have a full, detailed report for you when I return!
  19. Knowing nothing about the specific programs or your field, I'd still say UIC just based off of what you wrote.
  20. Is anyone going to the open house weekend March 30th-April 1st? I just bought my plane tickets, so I'm definitely there.
  21. Am I extremely lame for honestly suggesting a meet up tonight? I wasn't even accepted into CUNY!! (Well, the MALS program, yes, but I don't think it's a viable option fiscally.) But I want to meet all the New York Grad Cafe-ers
  22. This program may be of interest to you: http://www.spu.edu/prospects/grad/academics/mfa/index.asp "The low-residency MFA at SPU is a creative writing program for apprentice writers—both Christians and those of other traditions—who not only want to pursue excellence in the craft of writing but also place their work within the larger context of the Judeo-Christian tradition of faith."
  23. YAY, lolo!!! So excited for you. Here's to hoping it turns into an admission!
