Mocha001 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Hi everyone! I really enjoy this site and I appreciate nice comments. I took the GRE and I bombed the verbal section. I got 780 on the math section, but my verbal score was 450. By the way, I am not a native speaker. I got 3.5 on the writing section. I am pretty disappointed. I major psychology and I want to focus on statistics. Should I retake it? or should I take the TOEFL and score really high? My GPA is 3.9. And I am planning to apply for the state university. Nothing like Ph.D oriented schools like UCs.
Ennue Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I'm not a native speaker either and I was required to take the TOEFL. Are you sure that it isn't obligatory for you as well? I think you should either explain in your application how your English is good enough but the test scores don't reflect that for some reason, or take the TOEFL and score really high. Or, if you don't get high TOEFL scores either, explain what you will do to improve your English (summer classes or something?). I found the TOEFL to be very easy, but I was lucky in that I was quick, so I wasn't distracted by other people talking during the speaking part...

Same for me , Ennue, I was damn quick and was not distracted, and scored 107 on TOEFL. It was my first time to take it, and the tests that I practiced with were with much smaller letters than the test I took as official. Those big letters distracted me in the very beginning, so much, that I wanted to turn off the computer and get out and cry Still, I believe that TOEFL is quite easy.
