  1. Just to answer the first part here: it will not lower your chances. I had Harvard picked as No.1 and Johns Hopkins as No.2. And I got into my No.2 which is the best school in the world for what I like to learn about. I am not an "A" grader, I am not some super Einstein woman, so go for it! Fulbright is the opportunity for you to see and learn subjects that are in most cases non-existent in your homeland. So, any school, and trust me, they do pick well, is a bonus. So many opportunities, so many open doors, and as I said on my interview : every school is a bonus, because I have none of that back home. Good luck!
  2. Got my medical form to fill it in...things are actually moving forward
  3. Same here. I even didn't get the orientation paper yet I talked to my advisor couple of days ago, and he said he will contact me by the end of the week...it is Tuesday...Friday was last week... Thank God I have a job. It keeps me from going insane right now.
  4. Well, I am thinking of the same amount and same stuff. Is 1000$ enough?!
  5. Thank you so much. You are in MD, also for the next academic year?
  6. Come on people...I want to go to Miami , too:) Can you please put the letter here, or give me somekinda insight on the schedule or whatever? What can I say, I am a planning freak..
  7. I still haven't got that e-mail with orientation details:(
  8. Thank dear! And we are not that far away, Baltimore is just a step away from NYC:)
  9. I am sure that you are right about off-campus housing. Except the fact, as you mentioned, there are a lot of scammers there on craigslist.com. So, it will be rather difficult to find a spot from abroad. I would do on-campus housing, but everyone said that it is an old building and that I could be better off-campus. Haven't got any official info on fellow students on JHSPH, and yes, it might be useful to know other people and maybe share an appt. I have noticed that everyone suggests Mt.Vernon as being a good neighbourhood, as well as Charles Village.
  10. Any ideas/deals of housing? I am pretty scared how will I manage to find one as being international student....

As an international student, I have thoroughly read this thread. So, you all recommend Charles Village and Mt.Vernon for living. Most of you. Two questions: 1. I saw that no one recommends living in Reed hall? Why? 2. If I study at JHSPH, can I consider housing on the "main" campus of JHU? Is that smart/possible? Or you still recommend off-campus housing? As an international student I am not sure how will I arrange all this without previous visit, so it is quite important for me to get clear on all the facts presented here. And thank you all for posting, it is rather helpful to read every opinion and suggestion!
  12. Me too! Public Health!
  13. Johns Hopkins it is!!! Thank God, the waiting time is over!
  14. Maybe you should try at the forum in the part city guide ( )or meet and greet, for newbies, there are some interesting stuff about housing. And yes, this is probably not the perfect video, but take a look, it might be helpful to get the picture Good luck!
  15. I know exactly how it feels! I know that I shall go, but I would also like to know where Hang in there. There are at least two of us still waiting
  16. Haha, no man, as I said, it is not my opinion I just shared what I have been told. And, no, I am not going to visit, since the ticket is waaaaaay to above my budget. Just way to above. That would be one of my main reasons. And, yeah, I am leaving a lot (mom, dad, bro, sis, and a fiance back home...so, tough call but still, a girl has got to do what a girl has got to do).
  17. I am the only one from all the other candidates that did not get a placement yet
  18. Congrats Kathiza, and yes, I can feel your pain bout the winter, we were on CNN two days ago - winter and snow in April Good luck!
  19. No going home. As you can see, I am pretty close to ur homeland . I ttalked to couple of previous recepients of the scholarship that I got, it turns out that they are not very ahppy to see the recipient going home every now and then. It makes you look immature. That is what they told me. Not my opinion and experience. Therefore, I don't want to gamgle :9 and besides all that, I don't have the great urge to go home.
  20. Wow! Congrats Maankamaanka!!! I just hope that you get the details soon, and oh, can I say that I envy you big time I got an e-mail yesterday, saying that nothing yet on my placement has been decided, yet. Waiting kills me...
  21. You are not the only one to freak, and hang in there!!! I will have my fingers crossed for you and I hope for the best outcome!!!!
  22. And, sorry, folks, just to add up: those of you that got an acceptance/rejeting letter, can you please clarify when/how (e-mail, mail)/choices/medical clearance....sort of details on the final decision? As I can see from here, the final decisions started coming out from IIE.
  23. I cannot agree with you more on this! As I take a look at our scolastic system, man... do I get angry sometimes. But, also, if I mention that people here are actually scared of leaving their city, because they are afraid of the unknown gives you all a perspective of the society I live in. So, an open mind is what I need right now, a good university with open-minded people with great advisors and basically an opportunity to learn more on the things I am interested in. Being able to that for 10 months, in the USA, you cannot imagine what a blessing that is for me. I will say this, again and again - I just hope that this anticipation ends soon. So that I know what am I to do in the next year of my life.
