  1. We are on the same boat! I have been working for 4 years in a pharma industry, and had reserach during my studies, but I have only published like....2 papers. My university is very much teaching oriented, and not research oriented. Just to let you know, that you have a friend on this subject!
  2. Actually, I applied for youple of scholarships (USA, Switzerland, ERASMUS). Some of then were for research in Public Health through my M.Sc.Pharm., and some of them are applying for a new MPH. I really want to do Public Health. I would go for a PhD, but I really don't think that I have the sufficient knowledge for that! And, my University is very teaching oriented, not practice oriented, so basically - I am a zero in research. That is the part that scares me the most!
  3. So, you have an internal interview before the actual application process? That sounds great! We have a dead-line, August. And then I really don't know what happens next. I don't know when will the interview be, all I know is that we have a TOEFL exam in Jan. There is a restriction, since we receive J-1 visas, we have to go back to our homeland, yes, but by accepting this visa, participants will be subject to a two-year home residency requirement, meaning they must return to and live in their homeland for a total of two years before they would be eligible for an immigrant or temporary worker U.S. visa. This does not restrict other types of visas, however, so this would not prevent me from being able to apply for a student visa to attend university, for example. It is however great. Experiences that people get by going abroad...we realize their value only after they become part of our past. Can you tell me more about the interview part? It would be really helpful.
  4. Thank you for your response!! Hm, too bad. Because there was no explanation. It was like : "This is basically so that they see how your English is....". I would never even think on giving 10 pages for them to read. I was published before, in couple of Journals, but this was a first application for a scholarship. Too bad.
  5. We had to submit a writing sample, but where I come from, a writing sample is something that I never heard of before. So, I submitted my MA thesis proposal (1 page, professor named, short description of the process, etc.). I feel like I did the wrong thing. And this thesis is actually from another MA I am doing right now (Chemistry), and not for MA I applied for in my scholarship (Pharmacy). Where did I go wrong, because something feels like I did the wrong thing. The lady I contacted from the embassy said that Writing sample is basically something for the Committee to see how my English was.
  6. I had to do a Personal statement, too. SOP is more "I am going to do a research based on this and that...it will have ten chapters, etc.". Personal statement is more about a little talk on the moment in your life that made you want to do your SOP. That is how I wrote mine. It is not about your CV talk, it is not about "I was born in...I went to school ...", it is more about " I was born in a family with an autistic brother. Watching him grow...made me pursue my career as a defectologist..."
  7. As I can see, most of the scholarships we are talking about are for US citizens only. Anyone to share a thought/link on Non-US scholarship?
  8. Well, here is another girl, with double Masters. I did B.Sc. Chemistry, MA in Chemistry (Biochemistry major) and M.Sci.Pharmacy. Now, I want to do MPH. I know that it has nothing to do with the education I had, but it is in collision with M.Sc.Pharm. You should do Public Health. Maybe Global Health? It is good to know that I have a pal sharing the same vision.
  9. Why don't you try to get a scholarship? Try here, maybe there is something for you: http://www.sbf.admin.ch/htm/themen/bildung/stipendien/eskas_en.html
  10. It is about malpractice and adverse events. I applied for Fulbright two months ago, and still not a single call I guess the process is quite different in Europe than in USA? What are your experiences? I am really scared of the interview part. Am I the only European here??
  11. I tried the EU CV Form. It is preety good. With all the necessary info. http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/europass/home/hornav/Downloads/EuropassCV/CVExamples.csp Take a look for yourself.
  12. I see that a lot of you are getting accepted....to most of the schools I applied, and that see like a distant dreams to me, still. What were your subjects of research? What was THE IDEA that you think was crucial for your acceptance? Thanks!

  14. So, did u get any positive answer?
  15. I would add, for a lot of people, you are seeing "INSIDE the box". Do you know that it is not all about the money? Or do you know that it is not all about "networking with other "I-don't -know their-names"? If you are eager, you will network. Even in your hometown. If you want to pursue a PhD, then, my dear, consider that there are people that can barely tie a circuit in their labs, which proves efficient ofr them to get a Fulbright, just to see where the REAL advanced world is heading. Ur probably from a Western community. Consider other people that did not have ur opportunities.
  16. Question form a new gal Is everyone here USA citizen applying to go somewhere else? I am a European girl already applied to do research on Public Health in USA. Any suggestions? THANKS and good luck to you all!
