  1. Hi there, knowledgeable people! So, I have some invitations for visiting and interview days. I know for sure that some of my universities do group interviews - 10 people sit with 3-4 professors and "freely" discuss some topics. I've been on a "free discussion" competitive interview and I didn't like it a bit. I don't like to balance between having a smart say (bragging) and keeping a non-imposing, humble posture. I prefer talking face to face with a professor, where I can focus on him/her and have the time to think on my responses. What are your notions about interview formats? It seems impossible for a group of 10-20 people to have one-to-one interviews with 5-10 professors and/or students in the course of 4-5 hours, so I suppose some group formats are inevitable, right? But I do think that group formats are very different than individual ones in terms of how an applicant presents himself, how she explains her experience in comparison to the others' and how the hell he takes the mike from the crowd. I have a PhD-student friend who is "coaching" me to be aggressive and "trump" over the claims of the other candidates. Not that I will (can) do it, but what do you think about the amiable/self-assertive balance in group interviews? Can you think of a reasonable strategy? And I don't mean only for selfish success, but for a real good interview discussion. Thanks!
  2. Yes, they sent me an invitation for interview Friday 18th.
  3. NYU Steinhardt sent the interview invitations via email.
  4. Hi, I received an invitation for a visitation weekend at Vanderbilt, the Community Research and Action program. I think the whole Peabody College invites short-listed applicants on Feb 18-20. For the CRA program, 10 applicants are invited. I also received a rejection from the Personality and Social Contexts program at UM Ann Arbor. I wanted to apply to the Joint Program in SWSS, but the redtape was too much for me. I know that NYU Steinhardt, the Psychology and Social Intervention program will send invitations any minute now. DePaul University, Community Psychology program are also ready with the shortlist, but the weather shut down the university and they haven't sent out the letters. Where are you applying to?
  5. Yes, the procedure was more rigorous than the individual application to Am universities. But let's see if that counts... I just got a rejection from UC Santa Barbara. The other applications are still pending, no info. I am applying for PhD in Social Psychology. NYU, Princeton, Berkeley, UCSB, Amherst and Arizona State.
  6. Thank you, mikens, for the information provided. It was good to know, especially this insider point of view. I myself don't have answers yet, and it is somewhat disturbing...
  7. Hello Folks I am glad to be in your company here. Is there anybody out there who has experience with Fulbright Scholarships? Is it a big boost to your application to win a FB Scholarship? Is the application process different in terms of time of notification, interviews, etc.? Thanks
