Jean
I called the school up and secretary said my application was still under review by the committee. They will make final decisions and will notify on April 15th. Anyone know what that's code for? I thought the date for notification might mean that I'm waitlisted but I know they have a waitlist. Last year someone I know applied and was put on the waitlist and was notified that she was waitlisted well before 4/15. On the phone I was too anxious to ask what that meant. Or does this mean I'm waitlisted to get on the waitlist?
UndraftedFreeAgent
To me it sounds like an extended, unofficial waitlist. I'm guessing they had a large number of people turn them down and are worried about not filling their class with their official waitlist. They don't want you to rule them out because they took too long waiting for their first round admits to reply. If you're really considering this program, than I would wait, if not, then just send your acceptance elsewhere and be done with them. Sounds like Tuesday will be the day for you. Minnesotan
I think it means their committee is slow. If they haven't reviewed your application yet, you're not on a waitlist.
maa
I am wait listed on my top choice school and they told me that they could know about my possiblity by April 15. I have extended the deadline in my second choice by 3 days. Let's see what happens on Tuesday or Wednesday.
UndraftedFreeAgent
Call me a cynic, but I'm still willing to bet that the "no decision" is intentional. No self respecting grad chair would wait until now to start making decisions. They know full well who ranks where and are just waiting to find out what their yield rate among first round admits will be. They know their previous admits have to respond by the 15th, so they're covering themselves in case they come up short. Has anyone else on this forum (or others) posted an admit/reject from this program? That could tell you if they're going in waves or are just honestly slow. Jean
Thanks for the reply. I kind of figured it was something along those lines. It was my first choice but I'm guessing my chances of getting admitted are probably nil since I can't imagine masses of people rejecting. I'll probably go ahead and accept one of my other offers. UndraftedFreeAgent
Oh don't get me wrong. If they're waiting til the last second, then it's possible that you still have a shot at your top choice. You can always fax your decision to whatever school on the fifteenth or ask for an extension at your second choice.

Or does this mean I'm waitlisted to get on the waitlist? Sounds like a "code" for waitlist, what else. It does not make any sense to "be slow," keep in mind that the final exam period is coming and all of these people are busy as hell. I don't think anybody is examining anything, they are simply waiting for the deadline for acceptance. And they will wait for few more days after April 15. Then they will return to the waiting lists if they need to. "Under examination" is a guise for waiting list. Decisions are made fast most of the time, they are made by few people or even only one person and there is little "research" associated with that.
