erin85 Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 If my "accept an offer of financial aid and admission" arrives on Wednesday or Thursday instead of this Tuesday... is that a huge deal? If it is, I need to overnight a package tomorrow. If it is ok, I can rest assured that the US Post office says it will be there Wednesday if sent regular mail... -Erin
studentfromLA Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I think only your department can answer that question. I'd call them on Monday and see what they say. In my case, I accepted via email and they told me to "send in the formal acceptance" when it was convenient for me.
Minnesotan Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I'd drop a dime and make sure they know your acceptance is on its way. I'm sure they'd be happy to hear from you.
xnormajeanx Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 are you replying to Georgetown? the folks there said they are very flexible about the deadline, as long as you e-mail them to let them know it's coming.
missycari Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Call! I called to check with both of the programs I am deciding between. One said to call to let them know and they'd reserve my place until the mail got there. The other program said a fax would work. Different policies apply to different schools. Don't take a chance! I'm going to call both the Grad School and my Dept when I decide.
4givn1 Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 I got into the school I'm going to off the waitlist, so I still haven't got the official mail letter from them. Chances are I won't until next week at some point because I live quite far from them. But I e-mailed them and told them I was coming. At least that can act as a written record. But, call your program.
maroonwings Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 I would call them to ask whether it arriving on Wednesday is a problem, and see if there's a way to get it back to them more quickly if they want (email? fax?). I only received my formal offer letter on Friday (problems with coordinating my fellowship funding between the different offices involved, but it's all settled now), so I sent it back on Saturday via priority mail, and also scanned the signed contract and emailed a pdf version to the grad school. I had already emailed them to let them know I was definitely accepting, and I had already spoken to the graduate director about the details of the fellowship offer, so the letter's lateness wasn't a big concern for anyone involved. But I just wanted to be safe about it and get it back to them asap. Personally, I'd probably overnight it. But I'm overly cautious about most things.
erin85 Posted April 14, 2008 Author Posted April 14, 2008 thanks everyone, I called both university parts I needed (grad school for scholarship issue, department for deposit issue) and both said it was no problem at all as long as it was there by the end of the week
