xyzasdf Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) I have been accepted for the MS program of UC Irvine EE....But in the email it says that I have to send an acceptance within two weeks , or they would pass the offer. Now, I am still waiting on results from other universities and UCI was kind of a safe option for me(and also its a non-funded offer)...So what are my options in this situation?? Can I accept the offer now and later back out..or will it have any serious consequences....Or should I ask for an extension on the deadline...If so how? Edited March 8, 2011 by Shreyas
newms Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 It's much better to ask about an extension. You really don't want to accept and then back out - you run the risk of alienating potential future colleagues. Just simply email the person that sent you your admit and explain that you will need some more time in order to make this potentially life changing decision and ask for an extension.
MoJingly Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I agree with newms. Never put an acceptance or rejection of an offer in writing until you are SURE. Trying to change your decision will be problematic if it is even possible at all. Extension!
