My confusion stems from making sense of the rankings of these schools. While I understand that all of them - CU Boulder, U Florida-Gainesville and UC Santa Barbara - are not in the top 20 for communication/media studies programs, which one's better? Also, how much weight does the ranking have on final placements?

On the money front, CU Boulder is providing full funding while Florida is yet to make funding decisions and UCSB refuses to take me off the waitlist (as funding decisions will be made this week)! I know it's stupid to even consider UCSB but one of my preferred professors teaches there and it would be amazingly cool to be in a media and film studies program as opposed to a mass communication PhD.

Other factors like CU boulder's drug haven reputation and Florida, California's sunny weather and better access to public transport are relatively low on my priority list, as of now.

It would be great to get more perspectives on this comparison and any more insights/info will definitely help in making my decision.. Thank you !!
