Matthew Gemberling Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) Wondering if anyone heard back from GSPIA (Pittsburgh) or George Mason University Public Policy. I applied to the MPIA program at GSPIA and the ICP program at George Mason. I've already been accepted to American University (SPA) and George Washington University (Trachtenberg) but haven't heard anything from Pitt or GMU. This kind of surprises me seeing that GWU and AU are regarded as better programs in the rankings! Any thought from former applicants of when letters are sent out? curiouslyidling Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I applied for GSPIA's MPIA program for Security & Intelligence studies and haven't heard anything back yet. The acceptances listed on the results page seem to be all over the place, so I have no idea when to expect any news (unlike GW and Georgetown, which seemed to send out notifications all on the same day).

Yea, that's what I am surprised about. I got my acceptance letters for American Feb. 25th and GWU Feb 26th! I don't know what Mason's hold up is, I actually expected to hear back from Mason and GSPIA first! lol
StellaHaiti2 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I think we should hear back soon. I just scheduled a campus visit for Monday with the enrollment counselor and to meet with one of their top professors, and they got back to me right away. I don't think they would have a person (me) visit if they knew they would not admit someone (me). I would love an acceptance before I visit so I can get the most out of my trip.

Ahab Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Me too! I'm so excited!!! In at GSPIA. Funding decisions come out later. Good luck everyone!
StellaHaiti2 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Well, harumph. I didn't get an email yet... are you all Human Security admits? I am going for plain old MPA in Policy Analysis.

I applied to the MPIA for Security and Intelligence studies. Maybe the MPIA and MPA have different committees? Good luck!
Ahab Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I applied to the MPIA for Security and Intelligence studies. Maybe the MPIA and MPA have different committees? Good luck! I'm also Security and Intelligence. I really like GSPIA, although I haven't visited and won't be able to before I make my decision, yet the decision really comes down to funding. Hopefully, funding details come out a little bit sooner than late March.
StellaHaiti2 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I received my acceptance today for the MPA program... in person! I could only visit today, so potential drama be damned. I met with the enrollment counselor and I will be meeting with 3 professors throughout the day, so I'm hoping that gives a good picture of the school. Unfortunately they share the same admit weekend as my other acceptance.

I hope that you enjoy your visit...I am at an institution about 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh and believe me when I say that you are fortunate about the weather we are having today!!!! If you could, after you visit to campus post your opinions and reactions about the professors and information you received about the program; it would be greatly appreciated as I am still up in the air to which program to choose! Enjoy your day in Pittsburgh, and if you have time grab a Pittsburgh famous Pirmanti Bros. Sandwich for lunch or dinner, there's one right in Oakland : )
Super_Goal Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I have received acceptance yesterday from GSPIA, but I am still hesitating whether I should go. Last month, I received adimission from IUB and UGA, both of which are higher rankings and reputation than GSPIA. The MPA program of GSPIA only ranks in 27th in public affairs graduate schools, so I wonder whether it is worth to study there, though the city and the unviersity are great. IUB and UGA have TOP5 place in Public affairs, so that is whay bothers me, to choose a city or to choose a better program. Anyone have idea?
