Just an FYI for any of you that like myself were hoping to visit UCLA next week when we're in town for the USC Merit visitors day... UCLA is on spring break next week, so sounds like there's not much to see. The Luskin office will be open, however, if you want to go in and ask them questions.

does anyone know when we're supposed to get our financial aid award package info?

I'm pretty sure that the financial aid information was included in the admission packet that you received in the mail. I got my admission letter with a notice that I received a $1,000 Luskin Fellowship. I know a lot of people got much higher offers, but I was under the impression that they also received their offers in the initial admission packet.

Oh you mean general financial aid info? Yeah that probably should have been included in the packet but it wasn't. That might be something to ask Nancy Hunyh or someone at the visit day on the 11th.

I haven't received a letter yet, although I did call them a couple days ago to see what was up. They said I was in, but that they'd delayed sending my letter because they were looking into this certain fellowship and trying to determine award amounts.

I did, however, get an email yesterday (3/17, 11:33am PDT) with a welcome day invitation that appeared to have been sent to a large bcc'd list. Perhaps other admits could confirm whether they received the same thing, or if they're mailing it out on a case-by-case basis.

Anyone not hear from UCLA yet?

Its definitely not a case by case basis. I actually already sent an email to them declining their offer, but I still got that email you mentioned about the admit day. So yeah, that was sent to all admitted students.

I received an email from the Financial Aid Office on March 3 with a "provisional award statement" that gave info about loans. Admissions and Financial Aid are two separate departments, and they release information at different times.

I haven't heard from UCLA yet and one officer told me that they still need some more weeks to decide.........

I received my acceptance letter on Saturday. I was probably in the last batch, but I'm in Los Angeles, so I guess that if you are farther away it'll take a couple of extra days.

Any new thoughts regarding the decision on how to choose between USC and UCLA?

I just sent in my acceptance of UCLA's offer. So excited to get out of Minnesota and move back to SoCal.

I haven't heard anything from the financial aid office, nor have I gotten a packet from the UCLA Graduate Division (just Luskin SPA). Sounds like the school's bureaucracy is pretty fractured and jumbled.

On a separate note, does anyone know the school's policy on grade's for the last semester of college. I'm finishing up my undergrad degree right now, and I'm wondering if I can get by with just passing or if I need B's. I'm seriously burnt out at this point and don't know how much I should be worrying about my classes.

congrats! that's exciting. i'm really close to putting in my acceptance...would just like to see some more financial aid info first. i did get my graduate division letter this morning, though. nothing too exciting, just how to log in to the statement of intent to register and statement of legal residence.

so, you're from SoCal? any tips on looking for places to live around UCLA?

Edit: i'm assuming you'll need to turn in a final transcript of your last semester grades. i doubt they would rescind an offer of admission (unless you totally fail), so i don't think you would have to worry about that. that said, i'd be careful of slacking off too much. it might look weird if your GPA takes a sudden drop. hang in there!

Living close to campus is probably a good idea since commuting in LA is a biotch. With that said, living in Westwood is very expensive and you can get a crappy apartment for $1200/month. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get graduate student housing, but if not, I'll just have to take out more loans and try to find a well-paying part-time job.

Congrats on those who have accepted UCLA's offer.

Just fyi: I got the final decision for my fellowships and grants today via email. So hopefully it will be sent out to everyone soon.
