I've recently received acceptance from Hunter, Columbia and NYU's MSW programs. My experience is in the clinical side of things, and would like to continue with clinical work --- however, I'm also interested in policy and administration in the future. From NYC residents & social workers, the overwhelming advice seems to be in favor of Hunter's program as a program that better prepares social workers for multiple facets of social work. I was offered a scholarship at NYU that would make tuition comparable to Hunter's, so that is fortunately not an issue right now. Still waiting to hear from Columbia about funding though. I would love to hear your opinions and/or experiences about the relative strengths and advantages of each of these programs, and which you would recommend.... Thank you!

I hope its ok to join the conversation. Congrats on your acceptances. Unfortunately, I can't answer your questions but am in a similar situation (sans Columbia) - I was recently admitted to Hunter and NYU (I got some money from NYU but Hunter is still more attractive economically speaking).  I'm in the process of trying to determine which program is a better fit for me - I am more interested in clinical work than policy work.  Most people I've spoken to tell me to go to Hunter but i think they are basing that opinion solely on economics and so I'm curious about the strengths and weaknesses of each program. If anyone has any insight, I join in the request for opinions and/or experiences.  Thanks!!

I don't know much about either school, but have you talked to current students and alumni of both schools? I'm in that process and I can't tell you how helpful that's been, especially the conversations with alumni. I wouldn't make a decision without that step.
