Tattoos and piercings?

I am heading to NY from liberal San Francisco and I've got myself a few small-ish tats and a lip piercing. The first school I'm visiting is an art school I'm already accepted to, so I'm not worried but should I take out my lip ring to visit a history program I'm still applying to? Keep in mind I really don't want to. And everyone is telling me I don't need to but they're all from San Francisco too so I'm sure they're opinions are skewed.

You say you really don't want to take out the piercing, but the fact that you are asking for advice suggests that you are implicitly (perhaps unconsciously) wanting to take it out due to some unwanted possibilities. I don't know anything about the people at your prospective programs, but you just have to weigh your desires against your expectations. If you want to get in, do what gives you the best chance of getting in.
