How does one come to know if he/she is on the university's waiting list?

So I am waiting it out for my masters applications to come through and I see the status as "sent for review" or "under review" or "decision pending". Is this supposed to mean waitlisted?

not necessarily. professors and adcomms might still be looking at your file, and perhaps others as well. to get a definite answer, you might want to contact the grad secretary or whoever is in charge of the grad admissions in your department. good luck!
