VAPHD Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Found out that I was not offered an interview. Does this mean that my hopes with this program are over? Was I just such a great applicant that they are skipping the interview portion for me? Thoughts or feedback anyone?
caudex Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Found out that I was not offered an interview. Does this mean that my hopes with this program are over? Was I just such a great applicant that they are skipping the interview portion for me? Thoughts or feedback anyone? This isn't necessarily the kiss of death. I was disappointed a month or so ago that I wasn't offered an interview at one of my top choice programs. However, I was accepted with a fellowship just last week after all the interviews, and the first round of acceptances. Turns out they just treat international applications completely separately, and don't interview anyone outside of the USA. There could be a similar situation for yourself - good luck!
ikatticus Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Yeah I am hoping this is the case for me being an international student too! I guess every place is different.
Sharka Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 It wasn't the kiss of death for me. A few weeks ago, I got an email from the PhD program at my dream school. I hoped/thought it was an interview request, but it was an offer of admission. Crazier things have happened.
Eisenmann Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I also did not receive any interviews and was accepted to 2 schools. 1 funded, 1 not.
jynx Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 It probably depends on the field/program. I know in my field, practically every program has mandatory interviews, and if you didn't get one, you're not in. But the policy could be different for international students, I don't know. Did the program's website have any information about whether or not they interview?
VAPHD Posted March 19, 2011 Author Posted March 19, 2011 For my program, it was the kiss of death but frankly I got the best constructive feedback. Makes me appreciate the program even more.....and the program direction suggested I reapply for the Spring admission....not sure if I should... I've been rejected by all so far..and waiting to hear on one more....the feedback makes me think I could fix the overall package and go again for the ones that didn't accept me...
jordanami Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Yes, it depends on the program. In my area (public health) interviews are pretty rare, most schools don't do them at all.
