  1. Caltech had their matsci interviews here over the last couple days. (source: I scavenged some food from their pre-interview breakfast.)

  3. I haven't received anything yet. I also received an admission email from the department on March 11.
  4. This isn't necessarily the kiss of death. I was disappointed a month or so ago that I wasn't offered an interview at one of my top choice programs. However, I was accepted with a fellowship just last week after all the interviews, and the first round of acceptances. Turns out they just treat international applications completely separately, and don't interview anyone outside of the USA. There could be a similar situation for yourself - good luck!
  5. I just got my acceptance from Caltech MatSci, about an hour after my rejection from MIT. Still waiting on Harvard Applied Physics, however I figure they're done and I'm just waiting for a postal rejection notification. Now deciding between Princeton, Caltech and Northwestern. The UIUC visit was only so-so.
  6. I'm 21 and will be going there with only my cat . I've applied to housing at Butler and Lawrence I believe -- the only ones that allowed pets. Hopefully loneliness isn't a problem, I figure thats what the visit day will tell me. My other visits have all showed a great community of grad students within and outside of department boundaries, so I hope Princeton is the same. I'm Canadian, but I've spent time doing full time research at American universities before, so I figure there won't be much of a transition. Nice to see another Commonwealth-er.
  7. Still waiting on a couple schools, and I'll be visiting Princeton next weekend. Odds are good that I'll be heading there though. Chemical Engineering.
  8. Hey nicklo- Nice to see a MatSci specific thread. I'm also applying to MSE PhD programs for Fall 2011. I applied to: UC Berkeley MIT Harvard (Applied Physics) Northwestern (unofficially accepted) UIUC (accepted) Princeton (PRISM) (accepted) Caltech It looks to me like Caltech has sent out their invites for the interview weekend, and in my experience (based on friends interviewing at Caltech for other programs) there will be no more interview invites. Based on the survey results, MIT looks pretty grim now, as does UCB. But there is always hope for some late decisions or wait list acceptances. Looks like you were pretty gutsy with your choice of schools, hope it pays off for you. Best of luck!
