mrpink44 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Has anyone heard anything back from the University of Oklahoma?? I've heard from every other school, but OU. How long do I wait before contacting someone in their graduate department? Thanks in advance and congrats to all those who get acceptance letters this spring!!!
BH-history Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I am also waiting... no word yet! Has anyone heard anything back from the University of Oklahoma?? I've heard from every other school, but OU. PhD or Bust Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I got a letter from the Director of Admissions saying that the department has made a decision for me, but that I was missing one of my transcripts. (A school I took 2 classes at "forgot" to send it in...wtf?) Anyway, still no word back other than they received the other transcript.
PhD or Bust Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I should add, from what I understand from talking with my professor who got his PhD there, the department is some what luddite, so expect everything to come via snail mail.
mrpink44 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 Thanks to both of you for sharing....glad I'm not the only one waiting. Each day has been a disappointing rush home to check the mailbox. I have a nice bottle of wine from 2005 resting in the wine cooler if I get the acceptance letter. Once the letter arrives, I'll post an update. If anyone else hears anything, please feel free to share. Good luck to all!
BH-history Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 For sure, I will post as soon as they give me an answer, whatever it be! Good luck for you two!
PhD or Bust Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I can't wait anymore...I'm going to email the department and the admissions office and see if I can fish out an answer...This is the last school that I need to hear back from and I am sick of waiting to make important life decisions...
mrpink44 Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) For sure, I will post as soon as they give me an answer, whatever it be! Good luck for you two! Excellent...please let us know what you find out. I e-mailed the generic history graduate address last Friday, but didn't get a response. Oops....wrong reply. This was in response to the post by PhD or Bust. Edited March 24, 2011 by mrpink44

PhD or Bust Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 ok, here is the response I got Your file is now ready for and admissions officer to review, and that should happen sometime in the next few weeks. Graduate Admission Process Office of Admissions Review Upon receipt of your application, the Office of Admissions will verify that all materials are received and will forward your application to the Graduate College for review. Graduate College Review After a review of your transcripts and the calculation of your GPA, the Graduate College will refer your application to the academic department for their review. Academic Department Review After the academic department reviews your complete application, they will notify the Graduate College of their admission recommendation. Notification of Admission Decision The Graduate College will review the recommendation and forward your application and final admission decision to the Office of Admissions, who will then notify you of your admission status.
mrpink44 Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 Thanks for the info! My file was supposedly sent to the history graduate department on January 3rd. Two and a half months of review.....they're probably all sitting around laughing at my application. Well, I guess it's back to the waiting game....seems like almost all the other universities have made decisions...ugh!

I also emailed someone I know in the department, but no word back from them yet.
PhD or Bust Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I can't imagine OU got nearly as many applicants as say Yale or Havard...Wth is taking so long? BTW, are you all applying to the PhD program or one of the two MA programs?

BTW, are you all applying to the PhD program or one of the two MA programs? I applied to the MA program...I didn't think you could apply directly to the PhD program - otherwise I would have. I'm hoping to study 19th century American history with a focus on Native Americans during the Civil War and Reconstruction or possibly the rise of cities in the West. How about you?

Actually, I'm looking to do something similar...On an extreme surface level, I want to look at NA history during the "Indian Wars", but utilizing the material record.
PhD or Bust Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) Ok, I got word back from someone within the department to go to admissions.ou.edu and log into the application system to check your status. Apparently, my application was sent today to the Graduate College for review; or the second stage of the process. I think its going to be a while before I find out if I'm in or not... BH-history Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Thank you all for the info. I am applying to the PhD program in Latin American History.
PhD or Bust Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 My application has been forwarded to the Department for review....again
PhD or Bust Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I just got accepted and received a fellowship offer!
borderlands Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I just got accepted and received a fellowship offer! That is wonderful news! Congrats!
mrpink44 Posted April 16, 2011 Author Posted April 16, 2011 I just got accepted and received a fellowship offer! CONGRATS!!! Acceptance & funding! That is awesome news for you - a nice reward for the obvious hardwork you have put in during your undergraduate studies. Can I assume that you were the one who posted on the results page? Just curious since that person was notified via e-mail. Well, at least OU has made some decisions....took em long enough.
