deepmetal
Hii everyone, I am currently doing my MS in Chemical Engineering in University of Maryland, College Park. I am applying for the PhD pgroam in a few other universities for Fal 2012. I took my GRE long back in September 2007. Officially my GRE score will be valid when I apply for PhD. But do the graduate schools in engineering generally prefer recent GRE scores ? Do I need to retake it ? edost
I'm not an engineer, but I can tell you that the cutoff date seems to be different at every university. I recently retook the TOEFL test because some of the universities I'm applying to wouldn't accept my scores while others would. For some, the cutoff is the application deadline, for others it is the beginning of the first semester. Since you took the GRE in September 2007, I'd guess you don't have to retake it. But to be safe, e-mail the admissions officers and ask.

Only University of Wisconsin, Madison 'prefers' to have more recent GRE scores. Out goes UWisc from my list of 'must apply universities' to 'tentative'. Need to check as regards to TOEFL score as well. And need to mail the other universities as well.

TOEFL is good for two years, so if you took that around the time you took the GRE, you'd need to take the TOEFL again, unless they're willing to wave it because you have an MS from an American university. Eigen
I've heard of schools requiring scores from within the last two years... It's quite school dependent.
deepmetal
@ Eigen : Is this with reference to GRE or TOEFL ? I tooky GRE long back in September 2007 which seems like a century ago while I took TOEFL in October 2009. I do not mind having to take TOEFL once again as it does not need much preparation. In any case if some university decides to give me a waiver on TOEFL then it is great. Else I will have to just go and waste another day by taking TOEFL. Eigen
GRE, sorry. As you mentioned you've been doing, you'll just have to look through the schools you're interested in and see what they want.
