Syracuse or Austin

I got admitted to both Syracuse Nand UT, Austin for the graduate photojournalism program.

It seems that the Newhouse in Syracuse has a better reputation in journalism, while Austin is stronger in communication. Is that right?

But Austin is winning in its location since Austin is ranking as one of the "Best City" in America. And location seems important to journalism students.

Shall I choose Syracuse or Austin? It's difficult.

I am a current journalism master's student at UT Austin. I would say come here! The photo faculty are spectacular and there's always tons of events and other things going on. The program is also very international, and we have several Chinese and East Asian students in my class this year. Also there is a new journalism building under construction that will be done within the year!

So yeah, I am extremely happy with my decision to come to Austin.

Congratulations on your acceptances! I was given offers from both schools as well, and I was initially having a hard time to make a decision. In the end, Syracuse offered funding and UT didn't, so it wasn't such a tough choice after all!

For photojournalism, I'm not sure about UT, but I know Syracuse's program is excellent. Also, I believe Syracuse has a shorter program, which may be appealing to some.

Once I did the math, both schools would have ultimately cost me the same. In terms of location, Syracuse is close to a huge media hub, NYC, which has tons of Newhouse alumni. The Newhouse network may be very resourceful when you're looking for a job come graduation. And it's definitely colder than Austin. Coming from Houston, I'm used to the humidity and high temperatures, but I have friends that abhor the ridiculous heat when they visit us in the summer.
